  2. 2. Take a closer look at our findings:

We recently decided to analyse the number of homes entering the market over the last two weeks and how this compared to the start of the year. Our latest research revealed that the level of new for sale stock reaching the market across Britain has surged by a massive 128% since the start of the year.

Co-founder and CEO of GetAgent.co.uk, Colby Short, commented:

“It’s been a tricky year for the property market and a high level of market uncertainty has seen both buyers and sellers act with hesitation, with many postponing their plans to transact as interest rates have risen.”

It seems sellers are returning to the fold following a year of heightened market uncertainty, and we’re now seeing a real boost in the market.

Surges sweep the housing market nationwide

The figures showed that a whopping 97,500 homes were listed for sale across Britain in the last 14 days alone. That’s a 128% increase from the 42,825 homes listed for sale in a two week period in January earlier this year.

Colby Short continued:

“For many buyers, the cost of borrowing remains far higher than they are used to and this will ensure that an air of caution remains. However, it’s reassuring to see that many sellers are now pushing ahead with their plans to move and this has no doubt been in reaction to the interest rate freeze seen last month.

Of course, it’s important to remember that it remains a buyers market at present and so patience is certainly a virtue when looking to sell, as well as a realistic approach to pricing.”

Every region of Britain has seen this boost to sale stock levels, with Scotland seeing the largest surge. Even Wales, coming in last with the smallest increase, has seen 81% more new homes reaching the market versus the start of the year.

Take a closer look at our findings:

Region% Increase
Scotland273%
North West185%
Yorkshire and the Humber171%
North East166%
London150%
South West135%
West Midlands132%
South East106%
East Midlands98%
East England82%
Wales81%

New homes are also seeing an impressive increase. In fact, the level of new homes being listed for sale across the nation in the last 14 days has increased by 273% since January this year. The South East takes the top spot for the highest volume of new stock, with almost 17,000 new homes hitting the market for sale in the last two weeks.

Let’s see how these figures change as we approach the final stretch of the year!
