I am currently selling my house with Smiths, and have been extremely grateful of their meticulousness and strong communication. I have been particularly impressed with their vetting of potential buyers - people have been requesting to view the house, but are nowhere near in a position to purchase, meaning I don’t have to prepare the house or get my hopes up for a buyer that would never come to fruition. We recently tried to arrange a viewing with Smiths Property Experts and had one of the most unprofessional experiences we’ve ever encountered in ten property purchases. We were refused a viewing because, in their words, we were “not familiar with the area” and were told to physically “drive past” the property before they would even consider arranging a viewing. This was despite the fact we already have a mortgage Decision in Principle, a house under offer, and are in a very strong position to proceed. The property in question was well within our affordability. The agent we spoke with was rude, patronising and intrusive. We were even asked if we could “afford” the property, which was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. We’ve dealt with countless estate agents over the years as both buyers and landlords, and we’ve never once been spoken to or treated like this. When we raised this with the managing director, rather than taking responsibility or even acknowledging how inappropriate this was, he doubled down and defended everything based entirely on his employee’s version of events. Had he spoken to us himself, we would likely have been viewing several of their properties this weekend. Instead, they’ve managed to turn away exactly the kind of proceedable buyers most agents want to work with. If you value being treated with respect and basic professionalism, avoid this company....
