This guy Jon contacted me saying as per the call, he will be showing prospective tenants the flat and he has the keys. BUT....I don't live in a flat. I am not a tenant and I don't know this guy...Never haf the misfortune to know his name till today. I am baffled and asked how he got my email. He maintains, I gave it to them when I rented the flat through them. Again factually incorrect. Upon more persisting, he agrees there might have been a mixup of emails. BUT he didn't answer how my email ended up in his company's system. Now I am left confused and scared. How should I go about this?... Read more

I would rate -0 if I could. This individual named Jon has no shame. I have reported to the police as it seems to be scam. I called this morning to go for a viewing near South Bermondsey. The advert in Zoopla showed an studio with a small terrace. Jon said that he was in the car so he will send me a text with the address. He just send me a post code SE15 1EP in Rollins Street and he said he will meet me outside as he didn't even send me the number of the house like all the agencies do. The appointment was between 1.30 to 2.00 pm. I left my job in my break time to go there. I message him saying I will be before 2 pm, he answered: ok. I arrived at 13.50, I called him, he said: Yes, I can see you, I will be down in a minute. He made wait with this cold for ten minutes outside in the middle of a very dirty and noisy street. I called him back, he said again will be down in a minute, I waited 10 more minutes and I left because he never showed up. Also, from outside the buildings were very old council houses and any with terrace. At this time he didn't even call me back. This is the kind of rubbish service this people, if they are a real agency, are giving.... Read more

I'm posting this a bit late as I left my flat over a year ago. The agency doesn't seem to see anything wrong with renting unfit accommodation with an unusable kitchen to students. I rented remotely and the photos in the advert were not the right ones and the video visit did not show how unhygienic the accommodation was. Jon was efficient at the beginning of the process but was of little or no help with the many problems with the accommodation.... Read more

I recently had a difficult experience with this estate agency. Despite being reassured that my move-in would go smoothly, I received news at the last minute that I would not be able to move in. While I understand that the decision ultimately came from the landlord, I was disappointed with the way that the estate agency handled the situation. Fabulous company ! The process of getting my flat was super quick - reference check, contract signing and sealing the deal took maybe a week if not shorter. John has been amazing throughout the whole process as well as the duration of my tenancy agreement (1 year). He is super quick with replying to emails and dealing with issues- by far the best agent I have dealt with. I've lived in London for 12 years and went through a lot of estate agencies, managing companies etc. but Berns & Co has left the best ( long lasting I suppose) impression. Rented a flat for over 6 years, since the day I signed the contract we never heard back from the agency, not checking, no updates, no contract renewal. We have had problems with having up to date paperwork done despite paying the fees, communication via email tends to be slow and with multiple people interacting rather than one person dealing with the matter. There was no formal check-out done when vacating the property, not even key collection. We had to arrange everything and chase them. I’ve been living in this house for a while and by the time my second child was born, the health visitor noticed a mould and I did also, reported it and after a while a company they work with (LPC) came by. At first they assumed it was a leakage, but claimed to have checked and it just needed paint. A year after the same problem only worse. Clothes being damaged that can’t be replaced, items full of mould and a now sick son. Richard Reid when I expressed how mentally hard it was and unhealthy to be in my house, the damage it costs, screamed at me on the phone and told me to ‘Shut up’ .. He’s the agent. I’ve been sick, my son uses an inhaler, whole family is having a hard time due to the mould and their way of handling it. It has been a constant case of gaslighting, intimidation and blame. I’m a single mother with two kids, his action towards me were a Trigger. Also as attached the mould keeps coming back, knowing the medical damage it had brought. The house is freezing, insulation is horrible. We get so cold our hands hurt and because the heat doesn’t hold (bad insulation) it costs me more in topping up my electricity, with my finances. They kept sending multiple maintenance men to come and inspect the damage, had us in a b&b for 3 weeks and 4/5 months to agree to what they would pay to fix, knowing the damage and then try to blame me. Environmental health got involved and many others are. They only care about money, no form of humanity from their ‘landlords’ nobody knows. When they want something from you, you will get emails immediately. The third time now the company that said there wasn’t a leakage is coming back to ‘fix’ it.. I have also been cleaning the building for 6 months, get rid of a horn of flies that produced maggots, finding for myself that there was a leakage (doing their job for them). It’s been horrible. I do have arrears and I’m being helped to pay back, however that was after the situation that has been going on since 2019. This is the state of my house as I type. I would not recommend this agency! Have been dealing with Richard for a while. A very unprofessional and Horrible person. Called him regarding a Tenant issue where someone had tried to trespass a property and threaten us at our door. When Richard was told about this issue his reaction was RUDE, abnoxious and down right Racist. Stated he couldnt care Less.. Booked a viewing for a flat, called to confirm and were assured they're there waiting. When we went there - no one was there and were sent a text 'see you on Monday' when we've booked on a Saturday. Also called and no one picked up. To top it off, the area where we went looked like out of a horror film - do not recommend.... Read more

One of the best decisions I've made in a long time was to go with this agency and take out a short-term tenancy agreement in London. Looking to settle for 8 months before moving abroad again, I don't know if I could recommend anyone else better suited to provide you with a clean, comfortable and ideally located studio or small flat than Berns & Co. The man himself, Jon, was quick to respond if ever I needed him and the rates paid over the time I was with them were very reasonable considering how close I was to the centre of London. Top notch. Jon Bernstein from Berns & Co cancelled my viewing one minute before it was supposed to happen. I was at the property well on time, when out of nowhere, he e-mailed me that the 'porter' did not allow cats in the flats (we had already enquired about pets!). The first flag is that Jon sent me an email when we were at the same location, thus never meeting up with me. The second flag is that I believe he walked right past me, making me think that his decision was racially motivated. I am utterly dismayed at Jon's blatant unprofessionalism. This was an important life move for my partner and myself and from the beginning Jon was helpful, inspired confidence and was accommodating to our needs including seeing our apartment earlier than we planned. Jon was always available by phone and email and within minutes all receipts and documents were emailed to us. I am very unhappy with this agency. I live in London for 10 years. Never had any problem with my deposit. I was always looking after rented place like it was my own. Always had very good relationship with agencies and landlords. This agency took money from our deposit to clean the garden after we moved out. I need to mention here that house was rented to us without access to the garden due to very poor condition of it. When contract is signed they do not care about tenants any more. They will not represent tenant in front of ladlord if something needs to be fixed or repaired. We had rats in the garden and flood from blocked drainage and landlord was completely invisible. Obviously we put our own money to deal with this plague, as there was no help from agency. Tenats needs to invest own money if they want to live in decent place. Please avoid this agency if you want to have peace of mind.... Read more

I would strongly urge you not to use the agency. I was asked to pay fees different from the ones on the site and when I pointed out that legally they can't do that eventually a supposed manager approved that they lower the fees to the ones publicly listed. I was also asked to submit a review at their office in a rather obtrusive manner. The cherry on top was really when I moved out. It's taken 2 months to get a response as to why I haven't received my deposit back and that's just really unprofessional.... Read more

I found Berns & Co to be very honest and upfront during my interaction with them. They offered a place near King's Cross at a very reasonable rate, which initially made me a little suspicious. I had contacted other agencies earlier through Zoopla, but they never seemed to have the deals they advertised and always wanted to switch me to something more expensive and less acceptable. Jon from Berns however was entirely honest. I have been living at the new place for a week. I have not found any unpleasant surprises thus far. In fact, the room was cleaned up further after I put in my deposit but before I moved in. That kind of integrity goes a long way in my book.... Read more

After living in and around West Hampstead/Kilburn/Cricklewood for the past 10 years and dealing with many different property agencies, i have found Berns & Co, simply the best! They have a wide range of studios and one bed's in the best location for the best prices around! The places i viewed have all been clean, spacious and valued a lot less than other agents, ensuring you won't get ripped off. All the properties i viewed when looking for a place, were clean and decent. Jon ( the agent) at Berns and Co represents a no-nonsense approach to dealing with your requirements. There is no hard sell, just confidence in their products and services. Berns & Co also manage the property i rent from them. Excellent agents! They were very flexible and understanding with me, unlike other agents in the area Berns and co gave me the feeling that I am a human being and not just another number. They are very honest and tell you exactly what to expect.
