A few months ago I emailed 6 agents in Farnham about our search for a property. Shortly after I got a reply from Kirstie Stone including a useful questionnaire about what we were looking for. Kirstie has been so kind and patient with us as our circumstances are a little tricky as we are moving to the UK after many years overseas. We signed for a property today, Kirstie was literally the only person that replied to our original email and, despite having spoken and given details to several other agents, the only person that continued communicating with us until we managed to secure a property. Kirstie is an absolute gem and I’m not sure what we would have done without her!!!

I used Charters Farnham to sell my property and I would not recommend them for the reasons below.
Initially I was impressed by the effective and timely communication made by Nick that was better than all the other local agents in all credit to them.
However, looking back now, I feel that my property was overvalued in order to win my business which led to the property being on the market for 6 months with two price reductions. I ended up selling my property for around 7% less than their evaluation. (circa 20k)
Although this was a tough pill to swallow, I agreed to accept the offer on the condition that the buyers used quality solicitors at Charter's recommendation, to ensure a smooth and quick sale. The buyers complied; however, this was when the true incompetence and laziness of Charters was exposed.
It took a further 6 months from accepting the offer to exchanging on the property, which was a chain free sale! This was partly due to the complete lack of effort from Charters to progress the sale. Progress was only ever made when I called/emailed asking for updates. There were multiple occasions that were I hadn't asked for an update in a few weeks that I discovered absolutely nothing had been done by the agents or their solicitors that came at their recommendation.
Towards the end of the process, I had asked for them to continue to progress the sale to which I received an email saying ‘I have left them both to sort’, meaning that they were not going to continue progressing the sale and would continue to solely rely on the poor solicitors they had recommended to proceed the sale.
The solicitors that came at Charter’s recommendation were also completely inept. We had to set the date the exchange on three occasions which had to be moved due to tasks not being completed by them in time. On one occasion, the solicitor in charge of the case took annual leave for the date we were supposed to exchange as they had forgot we were supposed to exchange that day! When I asked Charters to speak to the firm to see if anyone else could handle the case to exchange that day, they said they couldn’t get hold of anyone and that we would have to wait. After this, I called the solicitors who understandably wouldn’t let me speak to them, but thankfully offered a direct number to a senior partner that I could give to Charters to call, since Charters told me that they couldn’t get through to anyone… Conveniently after this, they managed to get through to a senior partner who was shocked at the lack of progression and communication and thankfully took over the case which meant we exchanged a few weeks later.
To summarise, I am completely disappointed and frustrated with Charters due to complete lack of urgency, professionalism and laziness displayed by them. It’s infuriating that despite this incompetence, their fee was double that of my solicitor, yet failed to carry out the core part of the job that they were paid to do; progress the sale.

I made an enquiry on a property, after some time I received a call whilst at work, was told I could have a viewing but it would have to be 5pm, I explained that I was at work and asked if we could do a little later to allow me time to get over to the property for a viewing, and was told no, they were not going to add anymore slots, so I agreed, took the afternoon off work unpaid. I then recalled and asked if it would be possible to put a holding deposit on the property as both me and my partner were very interested, but they explained I would have to come view the place and then all who was interested could put their offers on and they will send them all to the landlord at the end of the day.
40 minutes before my viewing, I got an email saying the property is no longer available as the landlord had accepted an offer. I then left this same review, only to receive a call the next day insisting it was a big misunderstanding, and they asked me to remove the review and in doing so they would work with me to find a new home, after removing the review they said we will give you a call in a couple days to get the ball rolling. That was almost 2 months ago. This estate agent will clearly lie, gaslight in order to reach their targets and quotes. Generally avoid this estate agents if you do not want the hassle of losing money and having your time wasted.

Their competition (i use that term lightly, in my view they are not) have been appalling, not one call from any of them in 6 months.

She quickly arranged a viewing for us on a property in a sought after location and was very efficient in following up with the landlord and securing our tenancy. We are particularly grateful to her as we are moving from overseas and she accommodated our request of a virtual viewing and immediately followed up with videos of the property so we could easily decide whether it was right for us in lieu of viewing it in person. Dealing with Charters Estate agents has been very easy. They were very quick to get the brochure ready and very quick to make the changes we wanted and to redo some of the photos we thought less than ideal. Once we were happy they put the details on line that day. We were fully informed of all 22 visits, some repeats . Once two offers were made we were happy to select the buyer with the information they had gathered about the financial situation of each. The offers were below the asking price but we were expecting that having been prewarned by Charters. The offer agreed is what we hoped for. Putting the house on the market for that price, as suggested by another estate agent, would most probably have resulted in a lower offer.
The house sale could not be completed until probate granted and Charters kindly offered to keep an eye on the empty house for us until the keys were exchanged on the 30th January. All in all my sister and I were very happy with the support they gave us, particularly as neither of us live near.

Charters were very quickly on the ball. We actually had a viewing on the afternoon of our first meeting. In that first week we had over six viewings and we had a steady flow. All were positive but after week 4 we had no actual offers! My husband and I decided to reduce our asking price because we had seen a house we wanted. On that Saturday we had six viewings and our buyers came from one of them and paid asking price.

I’m really pleased that I chose Charters. They were of the mark very quickly. I was really happy with the way our house was marketed. The photographs very good and showed off our house. We had many viewings especially in the beginning with an week an average of 4 per week. We did reduce our asking price (a decision we made for ourselves) because we’d seen a property we wanted to go for. In the meantime we got our first offer which was too low for us to accept. After the reduction we had 6 viewings the follows Saturday which we accepted

Charters were very good, displaying a very professional approach when compared to a previous agent. I used their Farnham branch. After failing to get more than a few viewings and no offers after 20 weeks we decided to try another agent. We used GetAgent and google reviews to establish a shortlist. Henry from Charters was quite the terrier, in a nice way and advised there was nothing wrong with the property and nothing wrong with the price advised by the previous agent and virtually guaranteed to find a decent buyer. Within a couple of days we had more viewings than in the previous 20 weeks - admittedly not that difficult but still encouraging! An offer was made slightly under our asking price which we were happy to accept. Unfortunately they lost their buyer so we thought here we go again! Charters dusted themselves off and another flurry of viewings got another offer almost immediately which concluded in a successful sale. A big difference was the viewings - Charters team we’re so professional - they engaged with the viewers but not overly pushy - just very natural and friendly. They always followed up with good feedback rather than me having to chase the previous agent with “Well? What happened?”
Would definitely recommend - shouldn’t single out individuals but very impressed with Henry and Laura from the Farnham office - very able and professional.

Be aware that some agents will tell you it's one of their team but it is in fact a weekend rep! The after sales department is also a very important and welcome bonus to chase solicitors, responses to enquiries from clients to progress things quickly and without unnecessary delays. Not all Charters branches are equal, and it is evident the Farnham office has a team better than most. This review is for Charters of Farnham, and more specifically the 5 Star rating is for Henry Griffin on a job well done on selling our cottage. We vetted the agents to represent the sale back in January 2020, where we invited 8 agents from Farnham / Alton / Petersfield and surrounding areas. Why so many agents? because I have always believed that people sell properties, and it was vital the agent we picked would be someone who I would be happy buying from – Henry was in a different league to the other agents, Smart, Personable, Determined and Professional, and I knew from first meeting him that he would be the agent selling the property. Charters did the usual brochure, and photos (very nice, even had a drone to take aerial shots), and listed on the portals. The sale was complicated with COVID-19, causing us to pull the property a few weeks after launch, and then relisting in June 2020. The agreement to sale occurred a few days later, Charters had kept working the clients so when we went back on, we had multiple offers to choose from. The ultimate buyer of the property was a “perfect” match, which I can attest to Henry’s attention to detail in listening to requirements, and matching Clients to the property – Well done Henry.

We couldn't be happier with the service we had from Laura and team and would recommend them in a heartbeat. After a combined 15 months on the market with two other Farnham agents and not a single offer, Charters came in and saved the day. Great photos, great write-up, and ads on RightMove and elsewhere that consistently got above average engagement (we know because we had personalised marketing stats shared with us regularly).
Rather than just getting anyone and everyone sent round to bump up the viewing numbers, each and every prospective buyer was credible and had some genuine interest. Before long we had three serious offers.
After a successful negotiation, supported by the team, we found out about Charters' ace up their sleeve: a dedicated 'sales progressor'. This meant that with what was a really, really challenging chain, we had a single person responsible for banging heads together and getting things over the line. Absolutely invaluable.
We're now in the early days of working with them to let our property out, and are again getting the same great service.
Downing Street seems to be where Farnham's serious estate agents put themselves, and having tried not one but three we can say with some level of confidence that Charters is your best bet.

In initial meetings they over-estimated the value of my property to secure my custom but failed to secure close to it.
Despite numerous issues with the service provided the worst was when I was met by someone, unaffiliated with the agents, who had been given the keys and allowed to enter my property unsupervised and without informing me. When I raised that I was unhappy I was told that I was being unreasonable by Charters.
I would not use them again and would advise all friends as such also.

We instructed Charters to sell our property as they made a great impression when we were looking for our new home. Echoing some of the previous reviewers, the whole team was extremely professional, proactive and efficient whilst providing a friendly service.
Matt was extremely accommodating arranging several viewings at short notice on the house we eventually bought, and Henry kept us updated at all times with the sale of our property which was agreed within a couple of weeks. The marketing, especially the photography really presented our house in the best possible light.
During the sale and purchase, Stephen handled all the communication between buyers, sellers and solicitors, providing regular updates on the process. Nothing was too much trouble and we really felt that the whole process was extremely well managed. On the day of completion, Emily even came over in the evening with additional keys that the vendor had found for the windows which really was above and beyond what we would have expected.
Additionally, I should mention that their in-house mortgage broker Mark was truly excellent in all regards, securing a mortgage with a great rate for us which saved us the hassle of dealing with the lenders directly.
