
I genuinely enjoyed working as a Trainee Surveyor and learning from two experienced professionals who were supportive and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, my experience in the property office was very different. The person running the office was inexperienced, insecure, and lacking in confidence. They created a toxic environment, being two faced, patronising, and often blaming new starters, claiming mistakes were their fault, even when communication was poor, organisation was lacking, and errors were frequent. New starters were often targeted for mistakes while not in the office, leaving them unable to understand or respond to situations effectively.
The leadership style prioritised self promotion over supporting the team. The environment was exhausting, demoralising, and unsustainable for anyone serious about developing their career. It is no surprise that staff turnover is high in the property office, yet some employees may not realise this is due to the office culture.
Despite these challenges, I value the lessons learned from supportive colleagues and from navigating a difficult environment, which will help my professional growth.... Read more
