This is the first time I have used Whites to do a tenant find. Carly was very professional and prompt with both communications and appointments. She also gave sound advice on how to improve the property to give value for the tenant and landlord. She also provided recommendation for maintenance worker to do some remedial work and repairs. The EIPC was also needing to be updated which was done promptly. Whites have made the tenant change over very straight forward.

One star is too much.<br><br>I see a lot of the replies from Whites state they do not know the reviewer and have no record of them. For the avoidance of doubt, I rented a six-bedroom home and Annex via Whites from July 2023 to April 2025 in a village called Crockerton, near Warminster – the landlord being a senior-ranked British Army officer. My name is Anna Lindsay and I am a senior journalist and news editor at the BBC of 24 years.<br><br>I am not at all happy with my experience, and would not recommend to my worst enemy what I have been through over the past two years.<br><br>The whole tenancy was a disaster in my opinion – it was the landlords’ home prior to the tenancy and afterwards, and they did not “let go” and leave me to my right of quiet enjoyment of the property. Whites seemed unable to control them.<br><br>The landlord appeared with less than 24 hours’ notice, as did regular contractors. Six-day-long tree-felling works also took place with less than 24 hours’ notice, which affected my work and Airbnb guest in the Annex enormously. I was texted by the landlord they were going ahead whether I liked it or not, which is not how the law works.<br><br>There was the threat of further major unnecessary works just weeks before the landlords were due to move back in – but I managed to get these stopped. Whites ignored me for at least three months over these works until I drove to Salisbury and walked into their office demanding to speak to Marcus Shepherd, director of Whites, about it.<br><br>The boiler failed to an unacceptable level for a large portion of the tenancy (53 weeks), breaching statutory laws on the provision of reliable hot water and heating. I was again ignored on this matter despite paying very high monthly rent - not that this should make any difference, everyone should have this basic provision, but it particularly stung with the high price and no swift resolution. Whites did not get this fixed to an acceptable level until I decided to text the agency director, Marcus Shepherd, every time it failed - whether that was at 5am or late at night. It then got fixed. The landlords then wanted to put in a new boiler system weeks before moving back in, on my time, which was going to be highly disruptive, noisy and mean no heating for several days in February (while replacing the kitchen windows at the same time).<br><br>Marcus is a very nice man, as are the whole Whites team, but I have been left severely upset and stressed from my experiences, and do not feel the high rent cost (and % commission taken by Whites) was justified at all.<br><br>Whites and the landlord are now trying to claim over half of my deposit (I see a lot of other reviews mentioning this) for things I can justify cannot be claimed for – ie the property and gardens were left in a superior condition to how they were found. Some very petty charges are being claimed, such as a handyman having to pull a piece of bunting out of a tree, which actually ended up there due to a contractor of the landlord coming to cut the hedge (he removed the bunting prior to cutting the hedge and let it fly away). Marcus was visibly shocked at the condition and cleanliness of the house on the first day of the tenancy and no trying to charge me unnecessarily will change that. I will leave another review (or edit this one) at a later date with the outcome of the deposit claim. All submissions have been made and it is with the adjudicator as of today, which is why I'm leaving this review now.<br><br>It's a real shame to treat tenants in this way. I don't recommend my experience.<br><br>UPDATE: I received almost 50% of what was being claimed against my deposit back, following adjudication by the Tenancy Deposit Scheme. Some things were almost impossible to prove, but trying was fruitful.

I have had the pleasure of dealing with Whites, and they are absolutely delightful. Rupert and Marcus were wonderfully straightforward and professional, while Sophie and Ellie — whom I met in person — were so kind, warm, and accommodating. Jo has also been very helpful throughout.
At times I was stressed with work commitments up in Yorkshire and often on the road, but the whole team showed endless patience and support. They even made special arrangements for me when I could only view on certain days.

My husband and i recently had the opportunity to work with the team at Whites Estate Agents while looking for a long term rental in Wiltshire. Our original enquiry was responded to same day by lovely agent Angus, who was kind enough to answer quite thoroughly all of our preliminary questions and schedule us in for an immediate property viewing with the senior partner of the firm, Marcus.
Marcus arrived to meet us exactly on time, shared with us the vast history of the property, all changes, updates and renovations to the manor, walked us through out each and every room with helpful commentary on all the key features. additionally took us for a stroll throughout the extensive grounds, pointing out period architecture, clever fittings, footings, plaques of the outbuildings, the types of botanicals growing throughout the formal, walled and wooded gardens as well as over to view the wee fishing island and lake/tributary that ran the length of the property. additionally when we finished he offered quite kindly and without hesitation to drive us back to the station for our train whilst also pointing out the key services, arts, and historical areas of the beautiful town.
What an absolute delight to find such a charming, helpful and sincere group of agents.

We had a viewing with Magnus, and although the property we saw wasn't the right for us, having spent months of viewing properties with various agents, I feel it only fair to offer feedback on our interaction with Magnus. Magnus friendly, informative on both the property and the landlord / property management, he was courteous, professional and didn't push at all but made us aware of the interest being shown in the property, the whole interaction felt genuine and that he cared about the reputation of both his own work ethic and that of his employer. We have been both first time tenants and first time landlords with whites and our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. As a small, local business, no ask is too big or small. They’re extremely helpful and quick to respond to any issues. Always happy to take time out of their day to ensure your confidence and always a friendly face/voice. They do have high expectations of tenants, especially when moving out of a property, but their properties are very well maintained and they ensure any issues are quickly resolved during your tenancy (eg we had a broken floor board which was fixed in 24 hours). After months of battling the harsh, competitive rental market and either not being able to get viewings on places because they all get booked up or losing out to another couple putting a holding deposit down on a property, we were starting to lose hope.
Then we had the absolute pleasure of dealing with Magnus at Whites Estate Agents. Magnus actually listened to our concerns and took on board the type of property we were after. It was so refreshing to finally be heard instead of battling against voicemails and ignored emails from other estate agents.
Magnus found us the most incredible property that ticked every single box and more. So much so that every morning, I still wake up having to pinch myself.

Rented property from Whites for 7 years. In that time they did no maintenance whatsoever on the house, when repairs were needed (eg wind damage outside) we paid for them ourselves. We reported damp and nothing was done about it. Then when we moved out they kept two thirds of our deposit even though they acknowledged they’d done nothing to maintain the house in 7 years. Just be aware when you rent from them that they will always turn everything to their favor.

Yesterday for example we were seriously delayed by traffic yet the agent was still able to fit us in to a tight viewing timetable and give us plenty of time to look round. When I inadvertently left my phone behind there, an agent from the office collected it for me. From a house hunter’s point of view I have no hesitation in recommending Whites Estate Agents.

I have been with HW Whites a few years now and have had no issues that cannot be sorted. Even the other Friday, I locked myself out, after office hours. Some Locksmith, est in 1971 wanted £90 for the first hour (or any part of) which did not include parts or labour!I £90 for a ten second job...... So, I left a message with Marcus in the hope that I gain a set of keys. Soon after he stated that he was STILL in the office and that keys can be released. Marcus also mentioned that if he were at home, he or another member of staff would come back into the office to allow me keys to get into my home. I just want you to know that this Whites agency change the course of my life.
I was looking for a rent more than 4 months here in Salisbury. My family are Ukrainians, me Romanian.
I was very near to say after so many failures, i will mouve to another town and finish.
But today in the morning of 13th of October i decided to go personaly to the Whites agency due to one of the property posted. And that was the DAY of my life .
I just want to mention the way how i was welcome there by Mr Marcus and all his staff ,make me feel like i was at least a president.
During our conversation ,Mr Marcus was calling some of his colleagues asking them in such a nice manner like:
Guys, this gentleman need to get a house today (rent) due to his situation (my wife and our son stil in Ukraine ????????)
So imagine how i felt when i saw such a nice people involving for me,to help me.
After 4 months of searching.
And to make the story short at 15.30 i saw the 2nd property which i already choose it, so in few hours i fixed a problem from 4 months.
If was not Whites agency i was on the way to mouve from Salisbury to another city.
I just want to express my gratitude and all my best wishes to all the staff which they are doing a great job lead by example of their leader Mr. Marcus.

Wow what a joined up, amazing team Whites estage agents in Salisbury are. Initially I was seeking a figure on the family home for probate. I was given realistic information, advice and answers to any concerns I had from Anthony. In 1989, whilst serving in the Army, we had the opportunity to purchase a small property in Salisbury, to get us on the housing ladder. Due to our “nomadic” life at the time we had to let the property. We knew about HW Whites and we chose them to let and manage the property, this was pre Marcus (he was still a young man) but it was his Father who took us on. Throughout more than 33 years all I can say is that H W Whites has been outstanding . No matter where we were in the world serving our country, the service that they gave to us was commendable. They dealt very professionally with the management of the property, its maintenance and carefully obtaining suitable clients. At no stage did we ever have any worries, over the many years, about the running of the property and this was all down to H W Whites. For the majority of this period, Marcus and his team - they became actually part of my family - and that is how we saw the team. It was a “family affair”. After all these years it was time to sell our first house. We never put the house on the market , in our mind we would only sell it if a tenant wished to buy it, to help someone else to get on the “housing ladder”, and that is what occurred. Without hesitation we would recommend H W Whites to anyone for renting, buying or letting . They care. In the military we have a medal called “The Long Service and good conduct medal” and all the team have certainly merited this medal for over 33 years of excellent service.

The Lettings team at Whites have been superb throughout the several years that our cottage had tenants living in it. There was never a gap between tenants and so the rent was virtually continuous (which was very helpful)!
The whole letting experience was made so much easier by the team's hard work and patient advice. I know we tested their limits on a number of occasions, but invariably they were able to find a practical and relatively cost-effective solution.
Mark and Marcus were always available to iron out any problems and, once we decided to sell the property, Tony in the Sales department took it on successfully for a trouble-free sale.

If you want to rent or let a property in Salisbury and local area WHITES are the number one company to use. There is no need to go anywhere else. I bought a property through Whites in 2004. It has been let continuously. The management of the property is first class - firstly the selection of suitably vetted tenants and secondly the maintenance of the property. Consequently there has never been any hassle or problem to me. The service by the team led by Marcus is first class and personal. They are scrupulously fair to both owner and tenant and sort out any issues. Mark in the maintenance and repairs is the key person. Consequently both parties can rent and let with full confidence. During a recent visit Rupert discovered a small job that needed doing and he used his initiative and simply got on and did it, despite it not being technically his remit. This is above & beyond expectations.

I've been a landlord for many years and during this time have used several agencies to handle my properties but Whites is by far and away the best. Having purchase a property through them they have now handled the letting for five years during which time it has been empty for no more than a month. They have advised on the rental income and found excellent tenants and the rate that they charge is the best I've found. They have skillfully handled an insurance issue for me and their financial department is always professionally and efficiently run to the advantage of both tenant and landlord. I could not reccommend them more highly.

We used Whites whilst we rented for 1 year and then proceeded to use them when we purchased our first house. I must say, I do not have a single bad word to say about them. From a lettings point of view, our property agent was Rupert and he went above and beyond, from negotiating prices, to organising repairs, to returning our deposit and was extremely reliable.
From a sales point of view, Tony was extremely helpful from day 1. As we purchased the property during lock down, he was extremely flexible and was always coming up with solutions to problems that we faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Myself and my partner would 100% recommend Whites and cannot thank Rupert and Tony enough, they have been amazing throughout our rental and purchase pathway, thank you!!!

Matthew and the team were thoroughly professional from start to finish, from providing a valuation for probate purposes to marketing the property, they took my questions, suggestions & requests into account when marketing the property and achieved a sale in around 6 weeks, with at least one viewing per week, from which they always contacted me with any feedback.
They were patient to a fault with the questions & queries that arose from myself and the other executors of the property and the subsequent questions raised by the legal teams on both sides.
Other estate agents I contacted wanted to charge a substantial fee for a probate valuation on the property, whereas Whites did not charge us at all. Several agents I was in contact with were far less professional, far less willing to listen to my suggestions or questions and wanted to market the property for FAR less than the sale price Whites achieved.
I cannot recommend Matthew & the team at Whites highly enough.

Unlike most estate agents these days that are staffed by young, unqualified and inexperienced sales 'executives', Whites provides a highly professional, honest service, starting with a realistic valuation, excelent feedback before and after viewings, and good management of the whole sales process, liaising with buyers and their advisors. My brother and I highly recommend Whites for handling home sales. We had to sell our late father’s home and we are both overseas.
We needed someone and an organization upon whom we could thoroughly rely. We interviewed several firms in Salisbury. Whites, and, in particular, Tony Williams stood out. Both Whites and Tony Williams had a tremendous knowledge of the local housing market. Mr. Williams quickly understood our needs. He was very flexible and he, and Whites in general, communicated with us closely through all steps in the house sale. Mr. Williams liaised carefully with the solicitor, making the whole process a lot easier than it could have been. Tony Williams had a good grasp on local prices. The Whites website and information on the housing market were comprehensive and easy to navigate.
We were impressed by the fact that the house was sold very quickly at close to the asking price. There were no emergent or unforeseen events; everything went very smoothly. Whites were outstanding in managing all matters related to the sale of the house.
We recommend Whites, and Tony Williams in particular, in high terms. We both felt very comfortable trusting Whites with our house sale. We would unreservedly recommend Whites.

As a tenant I would never use this agent again. We reported a fault on the shower (it basically ceased up) and it was NEVER fixed during our tenancy. We also had a roof problem on the top floor which meant we had to avoid a bucket which caught the drips for weeks.
On check out we were charged for insects on the light fittings. The place was spotless when we left and still they charge you for ridiculous petty things. They do not know good tenants when they have them. They will do anything to make a charge from your deposit.
