Absolutely amazing experience, went to the viewing, rung and expressed by interest and then after 3 days heard back that they’d like to proceed. Joe who has been the main estate agent I’ve worked with has been amazing, answered every single one of my million questions immediately and with kindness, made sure I felt supported every step of the way and even went out of his way to let me re- view the house to take measurements for furniture. All documents have been sent over in a timely manner and any queries I had about modifications were taken to the landlord and answered promptly. Genuinely couldn’t fault him or the estate agents as a whole, they have been amazing!

We could not have been any happier with our experience selling our home with Barkers, we had lots of agents and company’s out and barkers stood out from the get go.
We dealt with an amazing colleague (Nicola) throughout who went above and beyond at every stage, they were so incredibly personable and even our buyers mentioned that our estate agents stood out compared to all the others they’d had to deal with (they looked at over 100 homes before buying ours and said that some estate agents had put them off properties as they seemed to not have the time for them).

Shocking service - quick to want to charge for things they actually shouldn’t be charging for (repairs to bathroom seals, pre-existing damages to property) and then don’t pro-actively get things fixed. Last year it took them 10 weeks to come and fix a leak (only when I disclosed personal medical info did they act with any haste) and then this year, the same problem has reappeared because they sent a cowboy last time who bodged it.
They’ll lie, delay, and argue with you, they’re not interested in being presages with facts, just interested in collecting their rent.

Extremely Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend
Our experience selling our home through this estate agent, and particularly dealing with Cathy, was incredibly disappointing from start to finish. The entire process felt impersonal, pressurised, and disorganised.
We accepted an offer on our property in mid-December and found a new home to purchase by early January. It should have been a straightforward chain – the house we were buying was empty, and our buyers were renting. Despite this, we were constantly contacted by Cathy, insisting our buyers were “stressed” and pushing us to consider breaking the chain altogether—effectively suggesting we make ourselves homeless. This was particularly distressing as I was due to give birth in mid-March.
To avoid any issues around completion, I even brought my baby’s birth forward and informed Cathy that we’d be out of contact briefly at the start of March. She continued to apply relentless pressure during this time, bombarding us and our solicitor with emails and calls. Ironically, we had direct contact with our buyer, who reassured us he wasn’t concerned and knew we were doing everything possible to stay on track.
Three days after our baby was born, we went into the office to update them on progress and were met with no congratulations or empathy—just more pressure to “push our solicitor harder.” Even our solicitor expressed frustration with the volume and tone of communication from Cathy.
Completion day itself was poorly managed. We had arranged to hand over the keys at 4pm after a full day of moving. Without informing us, Cathy told our buyer they were closing early for a staff meeting at the pub and advised him to just turn up. This resulted in the buyers arriving early while we were still cleaning and finishing up—a chaotic and awkward situation we had tried to avoid.
To make matters worse, the marketing package we were promised never materialised. The floor plan used was from an old listing and included incorrect features (like a non-existent window), the photos were rushed and poor quality (clearly taken on a mobile phone), and the promised video tour never happened.
We had bought our first home through Barkers years earlier and had hoped for a similarly positive experience—sadly, it was anything but. I wouldn’t recommend this agency to anyone looking for professional, respectful service when selling their home.

Avoid renting from Barkers. Serious repairs don't get done. If someone does eventually turn up, they just bodge the issue and it ends up worse. Poor service, unprofessional, unresponsive. Better off renting elsewhere.

IF YOU want a secondary service and shot it customer services and one to be ripped off then barkers is the estate agent for you you we rented a property from them paid in advance the property wasn't fit for purpose they never came out to do repairs you could put your hand through the gap in the side door the outside door or we could not lock the doors or leave the property unattended as it was not secure the toilet leaked the kitchen sink tap constantly drips everyday day under the furniture was a black carpet of of woodlice and God knows what else I had that many bites on my legs I contracted cellulitis and had to have antibiotics and steroid cream from doctor

Tried to view a property in Birstall with my daughter. Drove through rush hour traffic and arrived 5 minutes early. Waited and no one came.
When my daughter phoned the office the woman who answered was not helpful. She didn't offer to try the estate agent's mobile to see where they were. Just basically left us stranded. The property was a rear back to back and we couldn't access it at all without an estate agent with us.
What a waste of time! Perhaps someone wanted to get away early on a Friday?? I would not be happy if this was my property I was trying to sell.

After an awful experience with an estate agent significantly under valuing my property a friend recommended Barkers. I was pleased the recommendation was valid, attentive staff, made me feel welcome from the moment we met. Any questions i had were answered with answers not confusing jargon that had me reaching my phone to google!!
When i called if the person i needed to speak to wasn't available I WAS ACTUALLY CALLED BACK WHEN THEY WERE if the person on the line was unable to answer my query!
A highly professional outfit that i would highly recommend.

All the staff were lovely showing us round the property and signing us up. Granted problems get sold and the landlord is lovely but barkers a specific member of the team has a bad, patronising attitude when you ring up about problems. Not the best way to treat your customers really!

Barkers is small enough to care and provide an excellent and tailored Lettings service for landlords, but large enough for efficiency, flexibility and value for money. I've been impressed with the staff at the Birstall office who provide expert advice and know their market well and excellent service to outweigh by own inefficiencies. Well done everyone.

Barkers came and estimated the house I was selling. She asked me how much I wanted, I said the house over the road was for sale for £135k and I though mine was worth at least that or more, as I had a bigger garden and better location. She said yes put it up for £135k and she’s certain it would fly off the shelf! The thing is, I wasn’t desperate to sell quickly and I was expecting that she would value the house, not just ask me how much I wanted to sell it for, surely that’s their job to advise on? Anyway I put it up for £145k with a different agent and sold at £143.5k to the first person who viewed it! Long story short, using Barkers would have lost me £8.5k (agent fees were the same between both agents).
