I would like to reiterate a review of 8 years ago. Now the Renters Act Bill is about to come into law. It is only more important that you use an up-to-date and knowledgeable partner to advise you properly and guide you from afar. Brian Purvis, as head of lettings, is an excellent person to advise you on this. I am an overseas landlord, and as such, I rely on Boydens for looking after my entire portfolio - from start to finish. I have found them most responsive to my tenants requests for maintenance issues which they have dealt with promptly and reasonably. Their subcontractors are good and fair priced. I would have no issues in recommending them to look after your property to both your tenants and your needs. Their landlords fees are most reasonable, and payment prompt in passing on rents. The best words to describe them are "reliant" & "efficient"

Updating my review for Boydens Colchester. They're great, they really are. Been renting through them for a few years now and have just moved into another one of their properties.
When I was informed I needed to move it was a no brainer to find somewhere else with Boydens Colchester and they made what is, objectively, a stressful time as easy on me as it could have been.
Landlady was lovely and I have to give credit to Patricia F (don't know if full naming people on Google is helpful) for going above and beyond to look after me.
The new place is beautifully appointed and I do believe someone went in at the crack of dawn to inventory the place so I could move in the first available day. Above and beyond.
Highly recommend. Thank you for years of excellent service.

Boydens puts large distracting watermarks over their photos like they're selling exclusive paparazzi photos of Princess Diana.
In any white room it is especially bad. Very offputting as a buyer. Other estate agents in the area do not do this.

We have used Boydens as our letting agents for over 10 years and have found them to be very professional, knowledgeable and personable in their dealings with us. Brian is excellent from a lettings prospective with honest feedback and view of achievable rent values and then delivering a suitable tenant. The property managers are easy to deal with and we find Pat both efficient and fair when there is an issue with a property as there is bound to be from time to time.
I have sat in all the online seminars given by Phil and Paul over the past months advising on the renters rights bill as it passed through parliament. I have found their understanding of the subject second to none and far superior to other agents I have spoken with. This gives reassurance we are in safe hands to comply with the additional burdens this bill puts on landlords.

Renters beware - at the end of your tenancy on nil deposits they claim on issues that were present when you first moved in - You can spend a whole day cleaning the property to the standard, if not better than how it was when you moved in and they will say it needs cleaning and charge you. they then palm off the fees for their standard end of tenancy cleaning on to you. foul business practice. effectively it seems like they rent these properties out, you could have mold damp and various issues, refuse to fix them and ignore maintenance requests. then charge you at the end to slightly improve an already decrepit property that is not really fit to be living in.
I will not be renting through Boydens again.
*Edit* Just to clarify some points:
- Perhaps it has changed, but to dispute any claims, even if it were hypothetically a 1GBP article, it would cost the tenant over 200 GBP so is definitely not "Free"
- Being an "Agent" to a party on a contract makes you a party of a contract - otherwise the rent would be paid directly to the landlord and not the intermediary. so actions are taken with interest of both the landlord and the agent in accordance to whatever contract they hold between them.
This all makes sense and yes you are "Just doing what is being paid for" however the whole escapade I feel truly illustrates the lack of honour in people's judgement. it's done now, but that is all that can be said
On a positive note though, at least you read reviews and at least try to offer something of a solution - even if to save face! Many Thanks!

Met Gina at a property to rent. The property itself was nice and I wanted to proceed with renting it so later that day I sent over some questions in regards to the property along with my excitement and intent.
Gina called me the next day promptly which was appreciated and started answering all the questions over the phone, however I was at work and requested that she reply via email so I can read through the answers later - apparently she would have to email me later on that day (I don't know why she couldn't just email me when we ended our telephone communication whilst she had the answers fresh and what would seem efficient and logical). So I waited for the email. And waited. And waited.
Not one to pester as I think it's not my responsibility to get the sale, I showed my intent and I thought that anyone in sales would jump at the chance.
A week later I called and reminded Gina who I was and she yet again tried to tell me the answers over the phone. Like seriously? I'm at work again and I've had to take time out of my schedule to remind you of who I was and I felt very ignored and that my custom wasn't worth their time.
Honestly I'm so annoyed and upset by this that I have taken time out to complain. It's absurd. Just nonchalantly trying to breeze past the fact you've blanked me for a whole week.
I informed Gina that I'm not longer interested in renting the property based on her work ethic - why are estate agents and letting agents getting so lazy nowadays?

It is understaffed basically. There is not enough staff to follow through with sales, chase potential buyers, call back, follow through on messages. On Monday 22nd September 2025, I left 5 messages over the course of the day and no one rang back. In this industry this is of upmost importance. I could have been a potential buyer. The market is too hard to ignore calls. On that evidence alone I would not use Boydens again.
I personally lost a potential buyer as no one followed it up sufficiently. I would recommend using WILLIAM H BROWN. They have the support, the staff and the knowledge. They back it all up with hard work. Boydens are just winging it, hoping to get lucky.

I mean where do I start with this place, I unfortunately have had to cross paths with this company in all aspects.
As a director of a right to manage, to house purchasing every single run In is so unprofessional and out right diabolical, how they still operate blows my mind.
Staff member Internally creating fraudulent companies, conflict of interests with disputes, completely ignoring maintenance requests on a lease holding for over a year.
ignoring formal notice that they're maintenance team have damaged property as to then not pay for the damage.
Vile members of staff that speak in a way of they cant be bothered with enquiries.
Illegally not informing sellers of offers increases on their homes.
Illegally enforcing best and final offer without consent of the homeowner when it's a totally optional service, therefore losing the homeowner tens of thousands of pounds on their property, just to get the property off their books to falsely make targets look good.
Across the years I've literally had to deal with it all and then they're totally shocked to find out I won't lease my property through them.
My advice is to stay as far away as possible from this business as they are the most sneakiest Ill practiced company I've ever had to deal with as a business and as "customer"

Had a very bad experience with boydens colchester. We had a rented a property and paid a holding deposit. At the end of the tenancy agreement they have holded 50% of the deposit and 100 % for my friend who rented previously with the same property. But the sad thing is when we moved in there is not even a single thing they've changed which they've charged from my friend.

Just wanted to post our appreciation of a recent Sale made by Sophie Huckle at Boydens Colchester. It’s not every day that one sells a property and when you do there are many hurdles to cross. Communication between Solicitors appears to be a particular large hurdle and on our sale this proved to be the case. With anxious and troubled purchasers dismayed at the lack of progress it was Sophie who kept the parties sharing information, was able to calm the Buyers down and kept us up to date with progress. I recently had a rather unpleasant experience with Boydens Colchester Branch that I feel compelled to share. As soon as a property of interest was advertised a few days ago, I promptly called to arrange a viewing. I was informed that the tenant was still occupying the property, so a viewing couldn't be scheduled immediately. However, I was assured that I would receive a callback to arrange a viewing as soon as possible.
Despite this reassurance, when I followed up today, I was told that all viewing slots for the property were already booked. This was both surprising and disappointing. It is extremely frustrating to be given promises that are not kept, especially when one is actively trying to secure a viewing.
The lack of communication and failure to follow through on commitments reflect poorly on the professionalism here in this branch. I had expected a higher standard of service and reliability. Clear communication and honoring promises are crucial in the real estate business, and unfortunately, my experience fell short in these areas.
I hope that Boydens Colchester Branch takes this feedback constructively and improves their communication and customer service processes to prevent similar issues in the future. Potential clients should be aware of this experience and manage their expectations accordingly.

I will not point out anyone in specific although I will say that the expectations were low to begin with, but somehow even that proved to be naive thinking.
In this economy, a bit of honesty would surely go a long way, but sometimes the simple things really are too much even for the professionals.

Myself and my partner are really happy with the service we received from Boydens in our move. We genuinely couldn’t have asked for kinder or more helpful people. As young people moving for the first time, Boydens accommodated to us and made the whole process easier and more enjoyable. We also loved the fact this is a family run business that cares for each and every one of the tenants. Small touches like a moving out box were very much appreciated. We also had a few minor issues with our shower and the excellent gas/electric handyman (Neil) came round to us the following day and fitted a pump that has essentially made the shower a power shower. I went via right move to show interest in a property and normally with other estate agents by the time u clicked submit they're calling for your details but nothing. I rang twice on Monday and seems they were so busy they couldn't call back, rang again the next day to be told the house was no longer for sale. They haven't even shown an interest in gathering info on what I'd like. After the little interest shown in me, I wouldn't use the company to sell a property. Regardless of whether a sale maybe going through customer service is very important.

I had the worst experience with Boydens letting arm of the business, avoid at all costs if you value not losing sleep.
The house I rented was sub-standard as corners had been cut in its refurbishment, which meant endless visits from contractors to resolve the issues. The monthly rental cost was also quite dear for a tiny terraced house, with an out of touch landlord based overseas.
To detail the attic water tank leaked, the shower leaked into the kitchen ceiling as the shower tray hadn’t been sealed properly, the sink/kitchen worktops also hadn’t been sealed properly meaning a brief shutdown of half the house’s electricity due to water getting into the switches behind the worktops. To top that all the house was a mould haven, so much mould in various places, that it was genuinely a health concern.
At the end of the tenancy after all these issues, as well as little compassion or empathy from Boydens, they tried to charge an extortionate amount of extra charges on the zero deposit scheme.
To cut a long story short, most of the charges were dropped after I challenged them as they hadn’t done the end of tenancy checks properly and/or were trying it on. As for the cleaning charge, we came to an agreement where a third of their initial demand was paid, which seemed fair for the small amount of cleaning that remained.
This situation happened over the course of a one-year tenancy which ended just over a year ago, they may have improved since but be wary. I’ve since had a much better experience with a different, more competent estate agent.

Borden’s are profiteering from peoples misery. They charge nearly twice what most block management firms would do. For example the average annual UK management fee is £1500 and £2k in London. For a pretty normal block in Colchester they charge in excess of £2,500 per flat.
The level of service is also substandard. In the past year the lift has been broken more times than it’s worked, they’ve locked us all out with poor quality new locks where they’ve tried to save cash and ripped us off for a paint job that wasn’t required!
This has reduced the residents values of their homes considerably and made them practically unsellable.
Avoid this firm they are the definition of corporate greed!

I have read the response below from Boydens and wish to update and explain for any person reading this review.
Yes you have contacted me, that much is true. I declined the offer as your explanations are frankly ridiculous. For example:
"we were not aware at that point that Putin was due to invade Ukraine. "
This was the reason you gave for a a 36.85% increase in the service charge which is well above the UK national rise of 8%. My source was an article produced by The Times newspaper which are pretty reliable, but you may choose to not recognise them.
I have also spoken with a number of other providers of block services, they have helpfully provided comprehensive examples of similar properties (including lifts!) in Colchester which are far below your prices. I will be happy to send these over!
The painting was un-necessary when it was priced at several thousand pounds for the interior of a small building. I would not agree about the standard as the carpets still have paint on them but I digress.
Multiple local estate agents have commented about the flat now being unsellable because of your fee's, I have also had buyers back out purely because of this.
You were aware of the issues with the locks, residents complained because we could not access our homes at all until it was rectified.
You also failed to adequately address that your staff are parking daily in our residents car park without permits, you then lied about what kind of permits you had forgetting you had told me previously you had an "exemption list". Please stop with the dishonesty.
Again, avoid this company.

After 10 years of ups and downs with my previous agent, I recently moved my rental properties and existing tenants to Boydens as I'd simply had enough of the poor service that I'd been receiving. So far, Boydens have proved to be a breath of fresh air and I now feel like I have an agent who knows what they are doing. Last month, one of my tenants departed having broken their contract. Debbie at Boydens guided me through the process of finding a new tenant and at every step I was made to feel like a valued customer (unlike the experience with my previous agent whose staff could be offish and uncaring). Communication with Boydens was very good, the staff were friendly and easy to get on with, and I actually felt like Boydens wanted to find the most suitable tenant for me, eg someone who would respect the property and were a good fit, rather than rushing the process like my previous agent did. Between tenancies, work needed doing at the property and I found that the quotes coming in from the trades people used by Boydens were far more competitive compared with my previous agent. So far so good!

My husband and I were tenants of the same house for 18 years until June of this year.
Whenever we had to log an issue it was rare to get it fixed without waiting and chasing for a few months.
In the beginning after one of the checkup visits we got a letter saying “the grass needed cutting and it was untidy!” The person who did the visit knew we’d only gotten back from holiday literally the day before so yes the grass would have needed cutting and we had suitcases and washing out. However, that was not affecting anyone except us so was a ridiculous thing to comment on.
Things like the sink that wouldn’t keep water in, although logged was never fixed so I gave up.
There was a light in the bathroom that had to be replaced due to new safety regulations and when we mentioned the other bathroom (shower room which had the same light) the electrician said he would need to check with Boydens and come back to replace that one. That “in line with safety regulations” light was never replaced.
About 5 years ago we had a leak from the boiler to the kitchen ceiling. The making good of the ceiling sat untouched for those 5 years (see pictures). I had a text just under TWO WEEKS before we were due to vacate the house from the decorator asking if he could come in “that day!” I said we were leaving in 2 weeks and were surrounded by boxes so, no, that wasn’t convenient. The reply was “I think the landlord wants it done quickly!” I replied saying it had been sat there for around 5 years and the landlord couldn’t be bothered then, and as we were in the middle of moving out and really wasn’t convenient it would need to wait until we had gone. Being that Boydens are supposedly in the housing business one would have thought that they would know the statistics on stress and moving but they thought that would be perfectly fine to have a decorator in as we were trying to move out!
One of the rooms was never decorated in the 18 years that we were there and we did most of the other rooms.
Unbelievably, even after all this, and constantly having to chase things, being in the same house for 18 years, the landlord challenged some things including those that were actually his responsibility (such as decorating that had never actually been done) and Boydens didn’t correct him on this and it took a month to get our deposit back. Highly un-recommended.

Avoid avoid avoid me and my partner rented a property first lockdown everything seemed good had to wait for the covid cleaing team to be in make sure property was deep cleaned ...... was what we was told and the electrical checks to be finished ............well move in date comes we get keys and spend the day moving our stuff in come later that evening we go to have a bath to find out the smart water pump had sized up due to not being used and being a hard water area so we have no water ( somthing that should of been checked as now they rented a property without water ) making it unfit for habitation !!!
Now me and my parter brush it off and say we will call tomorrow get a plumber round to fix ......that took boydens 3 weeks to send someone to fix it
So we cannot bath or show time is late so we go to cook dinner to find the loverly glass induction hob didnt work aswel so now we couldnt wash or cook making property unsutible for human habitation that took them almost 5 weeks to replace the hob with the cheapest of cheap hubs an electric ring hob ........
Later in the year we speak to mathew at the friton branch and ask is it ok to paint the front room a light modern gray in keeping to the decor of the joining kitchen he said yes .............now they are saying we painted it without permission when we did.
Now apon moving out tammy from the colchester branch well she is as usfull as a chocolate tea pot tried explaining what has happend she didnt want to know didnt care and basically called liers even though we can prove the state of the property and the fact it should not of been rented out due to no water or cooking fasilitys which had the checks actually been carried out they would know known they couldnt rent it out .........none of that matters as tammy washed her hads of it asap didnt want to listen and called us liers .
We are going to seek legal action and compensation for the money we lost due to there failed checks we have documented it all

Took my holding money to process my application, then said I'm not getting the flat and has kept my holding money with no reasonable explanation and no wrong doing on my part. Utter crooks. They ignore emails and requests for my money back and also failed to state the reason why they are steeling my money. Do not use this company! UPDATE! I did not send any threatening emails, I did not even use any bad language. I did not mislead anyone. The explanation you used still didn't clarify the reason of steeling my money. I work full time I'm in full time employment. You should state on your form or advertising that you discriminate against agency workers. If I had known this I wouldn't of applied.

I've been renting for years and this was my very first negative experience of unfair check out costs that I am absolutely appalled by.
I agree with the review below from Nicole Crockett 100%. I've had an average experience with Boydens throughout the stay in property for over two years: there's been some significant lack of action when objects in the flat were reported faulty (broken door handles from the moment we moved in, until moving out two years later, broken patio door was replaced only a year later whilst being broken upon moving in, the list goes on).
The Nil Deposit scheme implies that we will be charged if any damage to the property and costs related to maintenance. The property was left cleaned thoroughly, yet we were charged for every little made up detail, like cleaning dusty radiators? Or kitchen cabinets that were cleaned and disinfected, or "finger marks" on mirrored light switches (never mind someone went into the flat to check out using said switches), for spider web (which was removed 100% and can only assume appeared over the several days the flat was empty before it was checked - spiders in UK is a standard issue?), for floor cleaning that have been hoovered and mopped so you could eat of the floor if you wanted, for cleaning literally every object in the flat that has already been cleaned, as we clearly didn't want to be charged for failing to do so! Why did we bother in the first place, wasting our cleaning products and time to this result!?
We've even been charged for removal of an ugly TV stand that was there whilst VIEWING the flat and way before signing the contract or moving in. When the dated photograph proving said TV stand was in place way before we moved in was sent to Boydens, it was ignored and no response was received further until Nil Deposit Scheme processed the itemised quotation, letting us file a dispute, mentioning that there's also costs to dispute it.
We were not allowed to be present at checkout, so they've just assigned that everything was "amber" clean, which is just ludicrous. The flat was presented to us in a WAY dirtier state than it was handed over, and it was clear that no professional clean was done, likely ripped off someone else for cleaning charges before us and failed to clean. Lots of objects were also left in the flat when we moved in, which were stored in the cupboard there as we didn't want to be charged for losing objects belonging to the flat.
The fee is not huge and they would charge us the same have we paid the deposit and we likely wouldn't see that money back either way.
I am now in process of dealing with Nil Deposit scheme to dispute this although I am certain they will say there's no grounds for it - how can someone prove the flat was left very clean when the "report" says it was not? Very convenient!
I can only say that it is incredible shame if any landlords will let their property with Boydens as we usually look at the property, not the agency, to rent a place we enjoy living in. However, I will truly avoid using Boydens services in the future and strongly recommend to avoid to one and all. They're all smiles until there's an issue, then you'll just be ignored at all costs.

Unfortunately for us the tenants left the flat in a terrible state, we were shocked and distressed. But fortunately for us Patricia Fields and Tammy Mitchell came to our aid. They were brilliant and we couldn't have managed without them. The flat was cleaned and repainted throughout within a week. We were covered by the nil deposit scheme, which sided in our favour and not the tenants, so practically the full cost of putting things right was covered financially.
Tammy Fields who organised everything and put in the claim on our behalf was outstanding, friendly and efficient. I would give Tammy and Patricia a five star rating.

The most pathetic, rude and unprofessional company I have ever had the misfortune to rent from. Left me without hot water for most of the pandemic, took them a year to replace the hot water tank, my landlord has sold the flat and they passed on my personal information to a third party without asking me or telling me they had, when I spoke to them about this they denied and denied they had ever contacted that third party with my details and no one could have possible passed them on...quick chat with the third party and it transpired that Boydens HAD passed them on and there was proof. No apology at all, anything that goes wrong they will blame you as the tenant and won’t do anything to help until you either threaten to contact environmental health or a solicitor. And Natalie the manager of the sales team could not be any ruder if she tried, no wonder the rest of them are so appalling as it clearly comes from the top. And they are attempting to access the property without consent despite me phoning the third party and themselves numerous times to advise that date will not be acceptable. I’m sure boydens will respond to this review stating that either I’m lying or they have no record of any of this happening like they do to every other bad review so if you are thinking of using boydens feel free to contact me through this google account and I will be happy to share all the evidence as I have kept every email and text and recorded every phone call!

Rapidly increasing rental prices. At the end they lies ,sayes we are not giving back keys (but we did), also every way to pull out money from tenat pocket ,after almost 7 years rental.

If i ever had any slightest issue with the property it was sorted as soon as possible, i received the most transparent and comfortable customer service experience i have known with letting agents. I am still a young person so having a transparent letting agent is very important, Boydens fulfilled that perfectly. Any first time renters i would recommend using Boydens as they are very understanding and kind people. If i ever had a problem with the property it was sorted so quick i couldn't believe it. I'm never one to complain, but I feel obliged to help others avoid the same experience I had. So yeah, to echo the most recent google reviews, Boydens Colchester are absolutely terrible. Definitely avoid.
The landlord told me 3 days prior to my moving in that due to an infestation he had to fumigate the property. The property was vacant for two months, and I'd accepted it over one month prior. Why this was found last minute is beyond me. He advised that I would not be able to move in at my required date, but made no comment as to when the move in date would then be. He has made no effort to contact myself or boydens since then.
I acknowledge the above is the landlords fault, but Boydens were equally incompetent. It's concerning that they hadn't flagged the problem at the previous tenants check out, nor at the inventory check that I paid for. They didn't answer my calls. I also found certain staff to be rude and unpleasant. Given the hours and hundreds of £s I spent on moving/movers, viewing appointments, etc only to have to cancel last minute, I expected more empathy. No apology, no offer to waive/discount fees, nothing. I ultimately just went with a different property at with a different estate agent.
In summary, absolutely awful. I'm sorry but I've never had an experience like it. I couldn't be more vocal about staying away from them.
P.S. In response to Boydens' reply - Yes, I have used a different name. Also, the landlord did not cancel the tenancy, I did; The landlord simply said I cant move in on the date agreed, and literally made no further contact. It says alot about yourselves this wasn't spotted during the check out for the last tenant, or even the inventory. They say the month's rent has been refunded, but It's not in my account - I'll acknowledge it may just be a case of the payment clearing. However I am *still* awaiting a refund of my application and inventory fees to be confirmed. I'll add the lettings manager (this may well be the author of the google review response) was initially very hesitant to refund the months rent, and insisted I wait for a response from the landlord that never came, despite having waited two days already - I had to end up speaking to someone else.

I would not recommend boydens.
After having structural problems with a property I rented through them - faulty windows causing overflow of dirty guttering water and rainwater to fall through - boydens took 6 months to respond to my several emails and phone calls of the issue.
Many items were damaged because of this situation, and I was told as it was a building problem I would have to claim from their insurance - to which they refused to give me their insurance information!
No apology. Nothing discounted, no insurance information. A very unsympathetic company with no care for renting clients.
I would stay away. Apologies to the hard working employees there, but for a few specifically (though I shall not name and shame) they should not be in the industry of trying to help and maintain a property.

Boydens have been my agents for over 15 years as a Landlord, and I've been very happy with the service received from all staff I have dealt with over that time. Any issue I've raised has been responded to positively and usually resolved quickly. There may have been a few requested items missed over the years, but these have always been minor; anything important is given the attention it needs. As a landlord (and at times, one who was overseas), it has made for an easy life, knowing that the teams will deal with finding me tenants, engagement of contractors for maintenance, and deal with these issues on my behalf, or the niggles I have raised.
Given this history, I have also recently engaged Boydens for a property sale, and was happy to find a similar high level of service, support, and attention.

Rented a property via the Sudbury branch and unfortunately it turned out to be one of the worst decisions I'd ever made.
The landlord charged £270 a month for utilities, with no proof of bill and then when my notice was handed in he demanded another £1100, again with no proof.
Returned home from work on Friday 7 days after he demanded the money to find he had illegally turned off all of the utilities. He demanded i pay £500 straight away to turn them back on.
Went into Boyden's to only be told that there was nothing they could do to help me.
Boydens entered the property without permission on more than one occasion and didn't once ring me to see how I was, given that I'd been rendered homeless.
Once my father had managed to resolve the financial issues regarding the deposit Boydens assured us that they would NEVER represent the landlord again.
Guess what!! Less than 2 months later they are advertising the property on right move again with no care for any future tenants.
Therefore would strongly recommend you never use them.

They have a tenants liability insurance that's compulsory to take out but they don't tell you this. This is basically a hidden fee and they can't legally force you to take out any insurance but they will do what they want anyway.
I find it ridiculous that you pay a deposit and they want you to pay for a liability insurance.
She said it was better to claim against the insurance if the carpet got damaged... Why is the deposit even needed then?
Only knew about it because I specifically asked. They will tell you only after you have paid your fees if you don't specifically enquire about this. Very sneaky.
Oh and the house they showed me wasn't clean and the tenant had already left... I guess they don't think making it presentable for the next tenant is a priority. I say this since they said it was managed by them directly. Their responsibility to manage it then. As long as they get their money they are happy to put on the market a property in whatever state it is left by the previous tenant.

I strongly recommend Boydens for efficiency, satisfaction and ease of mind, with special thanks and appreciation to Mr Brian Purvis the residential lettings manager and to the assistant lettings manager Ms Laura Pattinson.
I moved home 5 times in Colchester, 3 times of which were through Boydens and two times through other well known agents, so I'm now in a good position to compare their services, and it is simply that nothing compares to Boydens' services and expertise in the property market and in dealing with a potential tenant/tenant's needs. They exactly know their clients' needs and always find the most suitable property for them, especially Mr. Brian Purvis the residential lettings manager who is an expert in such things. He found me two properties from the very first time and both met and even exceeded my expectations. He is also a very efficient intermediary between the tenant and the landlord.
Once you move to a new property via Boydens, you don't need to worry about what follows moving; Boydens take care of a lot of things including contacting insurance, utility suppliers and other home move services.
In terms of property maintenance, they are the best (and I'm saying that after some experience with other agents). If anything went wrong, Boydens will send you a specialised person in no time. For example, once there was a slight water leak in the bathroom and it was the next day after I reported that to Boydens, that a very efficient plumber was sent by them to fix the problem and it was fixed straightaway.
I also noticed that Boydens' agents including Mr. Brian Purvis have a very good relationship with landlords and they have gained their trust.
On top of all that, their letting fees are reasonable and lower than many other agents in the area
To be honest after moving into three properties in Colchester via Boydens and spending years with them, I do strongly recommend them for efficiency, satisfaction and ease of mind

I have since disposed of my properties through Boydens and can thoroughly recommend Eve Mitchell who sold both within a week for the asking price. Boydens have been absolutely wonderful to deal with. Our main contact has been Natalie, but the whole team have been nothing put helpful. They are patient, caring, thorough and understanding and we can't say enough wonderful things about them. The property that we have bought through them needs completely renovating, so this has meant lots of visits to the house with builders and surveyors. Each time we have requested (yet another!) appointment, they have agreed and have even been understanding when we have had to reschedule or delay certain visits to the property. Had the misfortune of dealing with this terribly poorly run company when they managed my block. The staff were rude and had little clue about what they were doing, they constantly got things wrong and were completely inefficient. It was a god send when they were removed. I sincerely hope we never have to deal with them ever again as lots of tenants were left severely out of pocket, by there inept block management. Avoid at all costs...!

Having worked for many clients of Boydens by cleaning the carpets in a property after a letting I have never heard of or had a problems reported to me and as far as I know all deposits had been returned without question.
