We will never trust this agency again. 10 months ago they lied to us about almost everything about the flat. They said the managing company was great, there were solar panels (to save on bills), and that only part of the building would be let to council tenants. None of this was true. There are no solar panels, we often don’t have hot water or heating, we had a big mould for a month in our bedroom because of the leaking pipes (managing company didn't care), most of the flats have been given to council tenants, and a few times a month there is urine in the lift. We can't wait to move out soon.
I deleted my last review myself, after the agency contacted me, but the problems haven’t stopped, so I think it’s fair to leave this here.

Don’t be misled by the politeness and friendliness at the beginning of the rental process. Once you give notice and want to leave the property, as a tenant you are completely ignored – messages go unanswered and all policies are designed to protect only the landlords. The real test of an agency is not when you move in, but when you try to move out. That’s when you see their true colors.

Most unprofessional viewing I've been to. The agent ended up ringing us at the time of our scheduled viewing to tell us she hadn't left yet and would likely be caught in traffic and be 15 minutes late. She then asked us to tell anyone else who was there she would be late. When we arrived there were 4 other couples waiting. When she finally arrived she asked us where everybody else was before seeing the crowd. Then she said she hoped the tenants were in because she didn't have keys to the property... Are you serious? It was fine because the tenants were in but you're late and then you want to lead with oh we might not be able to get into the property? I rang the office to give them feedback but they're such a big company it's unlikely to affect them at all. All four couples ended up seeing the property at the same time which we didn't mind but felt sorry for the newborn that was just put to sleep. Just really disappointing experience overall. She was not the best representation of their agency.

AVOID as renters. If you have an issue, such as your flat nearly flooding due to a serious leak, damage to the walls, water dripping out of the ceiling...... They will not bother to fight for you or employ any urgency in dealing with the matters, despite multiple calls and emails to them pleading otherwise!
One month after aforementioned leak - the original source still hasn't been fixed, you continue to chase them regarding investigations and redecorating and they'll happily let you live in a state of disrepair with cracked and damaged walls and light fittings hanging out the ceiling!
It took them 5 months to come look at a broken window (that still hasn't been fixed). Proper pre-property checks are also not carried out - such as the heating system not performing properly, and then refusing to service the boiler even though it hadn't been serviced in over 10 years!!
Sales team are nice enough (as sales people usually are). However, it's clear the management of the company is poor due to a lettings exec calling me up at 7.30pm on a Friday night franctically trying to sort paperwork. Oh yes, they can be urgent when it suits them!!
If you are looking to rent with them, AVOID CHANCELLORS.

Strongly suggest to avoid Chancellors as if they were the Bubonic Plague mixed with nuclear waste.
Chancellors is able to take "Commitment Fees" (not deposits) from prospective tenants, change the initial terms agreed with the prospective tenants and subsequently take the Commitment Fee, without providing a property.
Myself and my partner, were asked £1000 as a "Commitment Fee". And, wait for it, it's perfectly legal. Yes, it is legal to take "Commitment Fees" and then change the terms of the contract - to make the contract unappealing to the prospective tenant.
And obviously they made sure the "Commitment Fee" is worth their while, since the norm is to take one week's rent as a deposit, which, in this case, was circa £300.
The way they did it, with ourselves, seemed pondered and certainly legally-checked: they withheld information at the right time (at the beginning); refused to re-offer the property, even after we were offering a higher rent proposal, and, finally, didn't officially cancel the contract (since if they did this, they would have to return the Commitment Fee). This is all legal, since they don't necessarily have to notify the prospective tenant of all the contract conditions, after a Commitment Fee has already been paid.
My congratulations to their legal team, they made sure there was a legal juncture being respected, at every step.
The place we were considering was on the market for many months, so presumably it's a way to generate revenue when a location is unoccupied for a long time?
You've been warned. If you're speaking to Chancellors currently, abandon the conversation and never look back.
If Chancellors puts in all this effort to do this for £1000, what else are they working on?

Just made a phone call and had the most unpleasant experience. The sales man was arrogant, condescending and unhelpful. Would not even bother to share the floor plan of the rental property with me when I said I could not find it and had a sarcastic tone when speaking to me even though I explained that I was looking after a home for myself and my kids. I’m debating on wether I should call back and ask for his name to write a complaint as I’m sure this is not the way in which Chancellors aim to treat its clients and I’ve heard only good things about this agency prior to my phone call. It took me a while to write this review for many reasons.
Aa per his request, this is a review for Tafoza. He is a great agent, really went above and beyond for me, during this entire process he was very reliable, responsive and reminded friendly at all times :) not many agents like him out there.
The only part that kept me confused was the fact that after I showed up for the viewing he said he called many times to cancel, I didn't receive any calls (it happes) as he didn't have the key. After I called him he said he didn't have the key to the property, however managed to get it while speaking with me, he came immediately to open the door, the viewing lasted maybe 3 minutes as he was rushing me, yet when I left there was a queue of people waiting to view. Bizarre
Unfortunately I didn't end up renting the flat I absolutely fell in love with, due to clashing with he company they work with.
There was a guy named Andrew/Endrew who took advantage of my vulnerable state and decided to patronise me. He did not appreciate the fact my ex partner was the landlord of the property I was renting and also still my business partner (part-time second job).
We were in a therapy for about a year due to a tragedy which also caused our breakup. My partner moved out to give me the space I deserved, but now that he is selling the property I needed to rent something else. Well the moment Andrew heard my voice cracking when I talked about my ex he kept patronising me, passing not acceptable comments etc which made me cry my eyes out, the phone call which supposed to be professional and easy, put me back in therapy because of the past tragedy. As advised by my lawyer and therapist, I didn't rent the beautiful studio I wanted so much as it would keep taking me back.
The only part I did not appreciate about Tafoza was him trying to charge my card £300 something despite me never signing any contract, so my lawyer had to get involved and put the agency in their place for trying to do something absolutely illegal. Otherwise the agent was great.

I can’t stress enough how much I would recommend not putting your property up for sale with chancellors. The service I’ve received from Chancellors as a potential buyer has been awful on a number of occasions. In 2019 I tried to view a property with them that had been on the market for some time - no one was able to answer any questions about the property and when it came to trying to book a viewing they never returned any calls. In the end we just gave up. Fast forward 3 years and the service remains the same. I emailed twice, weeks apart, with queries about a property, received absolutely no response, called and was then told conflicting information about the property by 2 people. I then arranged a viewing which they said they would confirm, there was no further call. On the day of the viewing I called them to confirm and they said they’d call back. No call back 6 hours later. I called again, was again promised a call back within 10 minutes, no call back. No surprise that the end result was no viewing. It’s no wonder that these properties aren’t selling.

We attempted to buy a flat advertised by Chancellors. 5 months later, we had to give up and lost thousands in the process. The property had been falsely adverstised to us (sold with a garden and parking which we later found out the property has no legal rights to). As soon as we told them about the issue, they just starting ignoring us and refused to offer any help. The craziest part is that the directors of the company have been made aware but think it is acceptable, and the property has now been readvertised with the same lies! How they can legally get away with it is insane. Don't waste your time and money with this agency, there are way better agents available, as we have now discovered!

Awful experience. The house we had signed the tenancy agreement for, completed all the checks, paid a deposit and first months rent for at the request of Chancellors was actually sold the weekend before we were supposed to move in. We were chasing our (I can only assume extremely inexperienced) agent daily to follow up with landlord to get the contract signed or find out what was going on only to be met with a very blasé attitude and unreturned calls. Complete lack of professionalism and empathy during a stressful time. Will not be using them again. What a let down and a waste of everyone’s time.

We did all the paperwork for letting a flat about month before our moving date and they didn't warn us the property was on sale (by themselves!) at the same time. We had signed the agreement, paid for the offer and still 10 days before our moving date, they said the landlord had accepted an offer for selling and wouldn't sign the agreement. During our tenancy, their property management team were reasonably good. However, the exit process wasn't so good. The end of tenancy cleaning company we used missed some minor things (cooker hood, some tiles in the bathroom), but all in all the (1 bed) flat was 95+% cleaned professionally. Due to the slow communication process post tenancy with chancellor's, we couldn't remonstrate with the cleaning company, and chancellor's wanted us to use their own cleaning company to reclean the entire flat again at an outrageous cost of several hundred pounds!
We eventually managed to persuade our cleaning company to go back and sort out free of charge.
Getting our deposit back required chasing too, which was frustrating as chancellor's don't seem too bothered with responding once you've left the property.

Avoid the lettings department like the plague. If I could give zero stars I would. Andrew Jourdain is a nice chap but of course he doesn’t manage the properties and the team which does is shockingly bad. Our tenants were left without properly working heating or hot water for 6 weeks in the middle of winter due to Chancellors’ incompetence at basic communication and follow up. Chancellors told the tenant they were waiting on us for a decision about replacing the boiler when they hadn’t even sent us a quote. After it all came to light, and I had to step in and sort the boiler replacement out myself due to their incompetence, a whole slew of other issues came to light where the tenant had reported things and we’d never been informed and the issues had not been resolved months later. I followed Chancellors complaints process and was offered an insulting £50 for my time and inconvenience, which I turned down. Although they admitted fully that they were in the wrong, they wouldn’t even make a simple apology to the tenant because the tenant hadn’t made a complaint themselves. They’re a disgrace - don’t use them.

Lettings department mislead customers to gain viewings and are highly condescending. Lettings fees are a rip-off for tenants. Generally unprofessional. Need to learn what customer service is and that without tenants, landlords have no business. Lettings talk to telephone enquirers as though they know nothing which is odd considering I was calling as a tenant and, unbeknown to them, a potential landlord with them - not anymore!

We had problems with this agency through out. At the beginning we were waiting for five working days for anyone to be so kind and advice us, if the deposit is on their account. We've made bank transfer, which takes couple of minutes. Property was advertised with parking, ended up having the agreement signed for a year and there was no parking included. Washing machine was broken took them 4 weeks to fix it, it broke 3 weeks before my check out I received a phone call 1 week later from a plumber. Did not live at the property, did not have the keys no more. UNORGANISED. Getting deposit back? NIGHTMARE, I've been accused of damaging things which were already broken at the beginning (inventory/check in) is clearly stating in what condition the property was given to us. I received my check out details, 16 days after the check out. With a invoice for £204 and £50 charge to remove 3 items from the draws (would easily fit into Tesco shopping bag), I was not informed about any procedures. The flat was in a bad condition, UN CLEAN - oven, toilet, shower, sink... MAULD and cracks all over, we have painted the walls, radiators and put new silicone all over the bathroom. We ended up being accused that the damages which were at the beginning were done by us, the flat was left to a higher standard then we moved in. In the email Emma stated (the property was not left to a standard that was received) OF COURSE NOT ! it was left to a higher standard... Feeling disappointed, we paid on time, did not complain for anything, non complains were made for us, as tenants. DISHONEST, LAZY, UNPROFESIONAL... and Ignorant, you have to send them at least four emails for anyone to respond.. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!!

Chancellors were fantastic with selling our house. The best estate agents we've ever had. In particular Joanne Fox ran our sale and made the whole transition very smooth. They are very clever about the way they sell houses and we felt very relaxed that our property was being sold in the best possible light, and using techniques such as open days to get as many people in as possible. Jo sold our house in 1 day after organising a fully booked open-day and easily achieved asking price. And even though the house wasn't on the market long, we knew exactly how it was being promoted with regular emails about how many times it had been viewed online/asked about on the phone etc. We've completed and Jo is still helping us sort out postal problems etc. We will be gutted that if we move again we will be out of their selling area. If you want to sell in/around Richmond these are the guys to go with.

We primarily dealt with Joanne who was absolutely exceptional from beginning to end. She was extremely communicative and constantly kept us up to date as new information arrived. We cannot recommend Chancellors highly enough! We sold our flat in Isleworth through Chancellors in June this year and the service that we received from Jo Fox and her team was superb. From the moment that we met Jo we had complete confidence in her ability and that of her team to do their very best to sell our property. We signed our contract with Chancellors on the Thursday, photos were taken on the Friday and by the Saturday viewings were taking place - and an offer accepted the following week. The intensive marketing via various methods paid off and we were so impressed that they had catered for our need to sell our flat quickly. We were also impressed with the follow up customer service that we received from the after sales/special sales team and Gareth in particular who was 'looking' after us. It seems that all staff at Chancellors have a real 'can do' attitude and excellent customer service and duty of care to the cilent. When things became tricky with our (useless!) solicitor, Jo did the very best that she could to escalate matters to senior level within Chancellors and at the solicitors to ensure that everything went through. We owe so much to Jo's perseverence and determination to get the deal done. We also appreciated how well the various branches of Chancellors communicate and link up - when we were searching for a new property to purchase we also dealt with the Bracknell branch (Tim Goodchild was excellent) and the Sunbury office - the internal communication in the company is impressive as experienced by the client. Chancellors Richmond lettings office are the best I came across from all letting agents I used in the past. They are customer focused, responsive, listens and knows the lettings market very well. They work very hard on marketing and bring quality, right tenants to the property. Staff and their lettings Manager Andrew Jourdain are very impressive in their knowledge, customer service, respect and extremely professional in every way. In summary they are first class.
