Steve the branch manager was great dealing with the sale of my Mums house. All of the Shires staff were very good. The only negative was using their recommended solicitors for the conveyancing, Apex Law Pontefract. Who dragged things out, with a different problem every week, sometimes a problem caused by themselves. But we got there in the end. Five star service from Shires, Bury St Edmunds but avoid Apex Law.

If Shires introduce New Terms and Conditions under the guise of ‘New Legislation’ check the terms very carefully as my experience is that they are introducing New Terms, without explaining the changes, that only benefit Shires and disadvantage their customer ‘The Landlord’. I can also list other examples that made me decide to exit from using Shires as my Letting Agent.

Do not use Shires in Bury St Edmunds for managing your rental property. I made that mistake and they are now telling me I need to pay £1800 if I want to move the management to a more competent agent or even if I want to sell the house. They have told me this payment is not just for me it is for all landlords operating with them as a management company. I’ve spoken to other agents and none of them have heard of this charge before. Shires are holding me to ransom as they will you if you make the mistake of using them. Their communication is horrendously slow. They proceed to pay trades people without checking if the work has been carried out satisfactorily. I had a wall painted which looked like a child had painted it, I asked Maria, who was supposed to be looking after my property, for a date when this would be rectified and they proceeded to just pay the bill without my agreement. You may as well manage the property yourself. Using Shires has not only cost me time and money but caused me a huge amount of stress and anxiety. Don’t make the mistake I did.

I've had a good experience at the start with Ryan and the duration of the tenancy was also ok, but sadly the ending was disappointing.
Although there hasn't been any issues in terms of getting the deposit back as this was very prompt, what soured the situation was lack of communication. Despite them being well aware I was eager to receive updates on the progress and promising me they'd let me know, I had to chase them multiple times to find out what's happening. In the end, I found out that the process was finalise a week after it happened when I contacted them to chase an update again.
It might seem minor, but I've decided to share the experience as some people may find it helpful. For me that lack of consideration for the person on the other side made me feel they didn't really care.
It was lettings experience, but if that's the customer approach they adopt throughout the company, I'll definitely be avoiding Shires for any future property purchases as I definitely don't need that kind of treatment in an already stressful process.

I have been renting through Shires since 2015, I am now in my second Shires Property and am always 100% satisfied with service, whatever you would like to know about the houses they have the answers and ive always found the rent prices more reasonable in comparison to other letting agents. These guys always have the best houses to rent and a massive Thankyou to Ryan who is the most helpful letting agent I’ve ever met!

My wife and I recently had an excellent experience with Shires renting a property in Bury St Edmunds, relocating from the United States. We first walked into Shires back in December of 2018 while in town on an orientation trip to talk about our situation and what types of properties they might have to suit our needs. From December onward, the Shires team has been great to communicate with and very responsive to our queries as we prepared to move to the UK.
Once we arrived back in the UK in February, Shires helped us find the perfect property. They were very professional and knowledgeable throughout the entire process, especially with me being an expat. Shires was very accommodating of a special request in helping us to work with the previous tenants to do a handover of some items we chose to purchase from them and keep in the house for our move in.
From their agents that showed us around, to the office staff that helped us finalize everything, great service all around. I can't recommend Shires enough, especially for expats!

Shires have been the best company I have ever rented through, I cant even put into writing how helpful and friendly that have been over the years. I actually left a house I rented through shires and went with another agent and they were so bad that after 6 months I felt like I needed to leave that house and come back to shires. Nothing is ever to much and everything is always spot on. I feel I could walk into there office with any problem and it would get sorted. If your thinking of renting or buying, this is the company for you!
