One star just for the friendly staff behind the desks. Otherwise a complete nightmare experience. Felt lied to from the start, having escaped from a rogue landlord, and was told that the house would be leagues better. White goods that are included in the contract are not even plumbed in and still haven't been despite months of calling and emailing. Broken windows are letting in the cold and wet from winter, causing extreme damp and mould. Our flat was let with a garden and a driveway which after the first few moths, were given over to a building company that has nothing to do with our rental whatsoever. My garden has been destroyed, my driveway has been turned into a rubble pile, so I have nowhere to park my car, my garden fence has been removed so anyone can just walk in, and have now had numerous break-ins and property stolen/damaged after the random builders that have taken it over. I have tried for months to get help from the landlord and agency but they have been beyond useless after 3 weeks of nothing going by and daily calls and emails, I had a lady say "Nobody has tried to talk to the landlord yet about these issues."
If you have want a peaceful, stress free move or would like the peace of mind that your rights and well being are in good hands, or that any small fix that needs doing will be handled promptly, look anywhere else. William H Brown is beyond a disgrace.
I'll happily update my review when any of these fixes have been done, so if you are reading this at a later time of the year after this has been posted, know nothing has been fixed yet.

Terrible service, completely incapable of advocating for their renters. We moved into a property with certain white goods listed as included, these goods were not installed and still have yet to be, 6 months into the tenancy.
Very poor communication, all correspondence turns into a game of Chinese whispers with their various offices that don't seem to communicate to one another.

Genuinely a fantastic experience. They went above and beyond in helping me get settled in a new flat where other companies would and have given up. They also left me with a gift box as a congratulations for moving in which added a uniquely human and compassionate touch where other agencies wouldnt bother.
Emma was absolutely brilliant, and did such a lovely job involving herself in things. She was proactive about contacting the land lord on my behalf, and went out of her way to make sure things would work out well. I couldnt have had a better experience.

Unlike many local agencies that just book you in for countless viewings and leave you disappointed at the pre-application stage, the team here take the time to understand your situation and actually help you secure a suitable home.
Emma was an incredible advocate on our behalf — she went above and beyond to help us secure a property. She often stayed behind late at the office many evenings and even supported us over the weekend, which is truly above and beyond. Elke was also fantastic — she was very quick to respond to our queries and concerns, and made sure the paperwork was handled efficiently and smoothly. My son bought his first flat, advertised through William H Brown recently. The buying process was explained to him and he chose to use the recommended conveyancing service. The communication from the conveyancer was terrible with emails going unanswered which is less than ideal for a first time buyer, finding the process stressful enough. The situation was saved by Clare at William H Brown. She deserves five stars for acting as a conduit between my son and the conveyancer, reassuring him that everything was on track and forcing the pace at the end of the process, even when she was supposed to be on holiday. Buying a property is always a nightmare but Clare kept us updated and involved her management when required to get the purchase completed on time.

We recently used w h brown Harrogate to sell a relatives property and I have to say that the service was very good in general. We had been on the market with 2 other agents in Harrogate prior to browns dealing with the sale and had not had a great experience with either agent! So I was very specific in the service I wanted when instructing browns…. initially I dealt with the previous manager who was excellent but left the company prior to us agreeing a sale ….the new manager however Claire introduced herself and then handled the property negotiations at offer stage and chased the sale up, we completed approximately 9 weeks after agreeing the sale, she provided an excellent service.I was a manager of an estate agents for 25 years so know what makes a good agent and I can honestly recommend W H Brown Harrogate if you are looking to sell in the Harrogate area. Well as first time buyers, we looked at almost every house we could on the market. We enquired about one of the houses under William H Brown. George showed us around one of the properties in an area we really wanted. Unfortunately we were beaten on the offer, however George kept all of our requirements in mind. Our seller was enquiring about their house sale, and it was in the area we had requested. George gave us a call for a viewing, and we jumped at the chance. We loved it, and it met all of our requirements. We put in an offer immediately, George leiased with ourself and the vendor throughout the whole process. George was there for everything we needed, and kept great communication with us throughout the whole process, via phone and email. And during George's days off, Alex was also very helpful. All in all, I would recommend William H Brown as an estate agents. Especially for first time buyers, with such a daunting process of unknown. We found we had so much help and support from the team. We worked primarily with Denise from William H Brown in Harrogate and had the best experience. She worked to make sure we could see a home almost immediately (it had a tenant still occupying it so we knew there would be some delay). Then, when we decided to move forward, she was able to direct us with exactly what she needed from us and answer all of our questions. Throughout the process, she never seemed bothered when we asked multiple times for the status of the lease to sign and was always quick to reply to our emails. I know we worked with at least one other woman, whose name I don't have unfortunately, but she was also pleasant to work with.

I wasn't sure about a flat at first but Alex sold the benefits to me of this particular place on my initial telephone enquiry so we viewed. After viewing this really was the best choice and property that we had viewed out of MANY across two counties.

Although i did not end up moving in due to unforeseen circumstances, i can only speak to the highest regards in respect to Denise and the rest of the team who all helped me every step of the way. Posting the long overdue review.. I had the most terrible experience here.. My contract with the apartment I was living in was ending in a few days and W H brown were keeping me hanging and not telling me for sure if the landlord has agreed to rent us this property. I had paid the withholding deposit as well . Me and my husband , we were in a very stressful situation and going through the hardest time of our lives but we were being told that “oh we’re gonna talk to the landlord and convince him.. there’s some problem with the credit checks etc etc”.. instead of giving us a clear yes or no answer they just kept us hanging when we had no other place to go to. The amount of stress they gave us I still remember vividly. Ultimately we had to go to another letting agent who thankfully were very nice and they found no problems in our credit checks. We would’ve been homeless otherwise ??????????? Also they never returned our withholding deposit and said that you backed out so we can’t give it back to you . But it’s completely unfair because we couldn’t just sleep on the road if W H brown might’ve decided not to give us the property. We didn’t have any other option but to go with another letting agent.

People are quick to offer bad feedback when problems occur but good feedback isn’t as forthcoming, in this case I didn’t want the experience I’ve had with William H Brown to go unrecognised. Every member of the Harrogate team has been a pleasure to work with and the service has been first rate.
Alexandra the initial viewings were quick, efficient and accurate, I’m really glad I took your advise with the listing price.

We decided to use WH Brown as we bought the house off them 6years ago. The team are amazing! They are professional but helpful and very efficient. There are lots of anomalies when buying and selling houses but these guys have you covered and are just great. Every memeber in the office knew what stage I was at and could help with anything that popped up. I do have to do a special mention for Sandra! The whole team are amazing but Sandra is on another level. You can tell she lives for WH Brown and is one in a million. Everything about her made this process so much easier and the relationship she develops with you is just what you need when going through a house sale. She listens, she acts and she empathises. I dont think I could have done this without her wonderful knowledge and professionalism with a mix of care and compassion. Thank you WH Brown!

Right from the very first appointment Susie, Alex and the team made me feel like a valued customer. I had a few initial appointments with other agents but the customer service provided by Alex and Susie was second to none hence why WH Brown were my chosen agent. In regards to the accuracy of the rental valuations provided they were higher and more accurate than others which has been evidenced through a successful letting on the first viewing!! A fast letting was part of the brief which was achieved almost instantly. I don't even know where to start - by far the best estate agent we have dealt with. We started our search about 3 months ago for our perfect home. We viewed a few with different agents and Sandra and Phoebe stood out a mile. They called us as soon as they could to book viewings in, called us the morning of viewings to check we were still going/feeling ok then the day after for feedback! We only ever got asked for feedback by one other agent and that was a one off. The fact they were always asking for feedback and checking to see what it was we liked/didn't like so they could amend what they were looking for on our behalf!
As a first time buyer we were both clueless really but they told us everything we needed to know - things we should be looking for in other properties and put our minds completely at ease with the whole process.
We had put another offer in with a different agent as we LOVED the house and when we told Phoebe she was genuinely happy for us! Our offer was declined so we viewed a few more and yesterday we had an offer accepted with William H Brown and we couldn't be happier!

Hi There,
I have recently relocated from London to Harrogate, unfortunately during Lockdown. From start to finish the engagement and service I received from those at William H Brown in Harrogate was fantastic.
It was difficult to view properties and had to be managed virtually. The team were extremely helpful and offered their knowledge and insight as much as they could.
I had the pleasure of dealing with two members of the team Chloe Morris and Susie Stacey, both equally as professional as one another. Not only were they professional they were really friendly and gave me comfort to know that I was going to be well looked after. During the move they were supportive and the communications between them, the landlord and myself, was smooth sailing. There were complications for the move due to weather but this only encouraged them to help me more.
I am now settled in to a lovely apartment which is exactly what I agreed to and able to relax with a glass of wine and very little stress. My services are all up and running thanks to them linking with a great partner.

Amy White was the first person I met in the Harrogate branch and she was so lovely! I'm a first time buyer and had no clue as to what I was doing but Amy put me at ease straight away. She listened to what I was looking for and was really quick to get me viewing! Throughout the whole process she has been an absolute treasure, always returning calls promptly, constantly reassuring me when I was stressing and has shown a caring and genuine interest in my journey. Her friendly manner has remained unwavering and I've been able to trust in her completely. She's a complete star!

I cannot thank Gina enough for everything she has done for us. She was by far the most genuine person we met when we were looking to buy a property privately that required valuations done on it. She knew it wouldn't be going on the market but she couldn't do enough for us. She was the most thorough and knowledgeable estate agent we came across. She gave us lots of helpful tips and information, which being first time buyers, was absolutely fabulous! She put us in touch with the mortgage advisor at William H Brown, Grace, who again was extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for us. She also got us the highest amount out of all the mortgage advisors/brokers we had spoken to. Gina kept in touch to see how we were getting on despite there being nothing in it for her and we both felt she genuinely cared. At such a daunting time, it's so lovely to meet somebody who is so honest and helpful. We are hoping to go ahead with the mortgage with Grace and will definitely always go back to Gina if we ever come to sell. They both made us feel so at ease and never looked down their noses like we felt some of the estate agents did. I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you ladies!

We lost a house as they don't accept credit cards- we rung 10 other estate agents in harrogate which all did accept them.
On discovering this the staff were then not helpful in finding a solution. Think w h brown need to look at their policies in a market like it is today.
