Our experience with Sovereign House was really frustrating from a few weeks after moving in right through to months after we left. Not long after moving in, we started finding mice droppings in the flat. When we reported it, we were told the landlord “couldn’t afford non-essential repairs.” It took a lot of chasing and the threat of raising it with the Council before someone came to (very poorly) cover a hole in a cupboard where the mice were getting in. Communication throughout our 15-month tenancy was poor. Our property manager Lisa 'didn’t have a direct phone number', so we had to call the agency’s landline. We called a dozen times throughout our tenancy and she was never available. Most communication was via email and replies were few and far between. When we moved out, the landlord tried to deduct £250 from our deposit for a professional clean — even though the flat clearly hadn’t been professionally cleaned when we moved in (we had photos of dust, mould and cigarette butts left on the balcony). They also tried to charge £100 for “broken” blinds, but we had a video from before checkout showing they were intact. We raised a dispute with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme and got to keep our money, The whole experience was stressful and unnecessarily difficult. I wouldn’t recommend renting through them.... Read more

Sovereign House have always managed my property since it was first let over ten years ago. Initially the management team did a good job but personnel started to roll, which is generally not a good sign. However, since then replacements have always communicated better taking the real hassle out of letting and it's been very stable. Jimmy has emerged as my main point of contact and works in tandem with Jude. Dealing with either has been easy as they both retain an equal working knowledge of my portfolio and any current ongoing issue. They have also recently been more than helpful handling tenants, certification and advising on new legislation requirements. Sovereign have built a tight team that has taken the strain out of letting with great communication giving personal customer service not generally available from the corporate structure of bigger agents.... I had the pleasure of spending a year living in this mouldy flat which caused me and my husband breathing problems. Despite all the mould, we continued cleaning and managing the situation as we were made aware of the fact that there’s not much that can be done to resolve this. Due to the mould, a large number of our clothes got ruined and as a result the landlord had to install wall insulation and a new wardrobe. Regardless, due to the structural set up of the flat, the mould could not be avoided and it came back. The agent and landlord pressured and bullied us into trying to accept or admit that the mould was purely due to our ventilation habits despite the fact that the above two flats had the same issue and our bathroom windows were open 24/7 but the bathroom still had mould, hence indicating a structural issue. Unnecessary dispute over deposit. It took us 5 months to get our deposit back and we had to raise a dispute with the TDS in order to get most of it back. The agent wasted our time as they agreed to pay the amount back but a few days later claimed they had “clicked the wrong button” on the portal, hence leading to the reopening of the case, wasting more of our time. Furthermore, the estate agents are owned/run by the landlords family. As opposed to doing the correct thing, the employees working here decided to support their rogue landlord/relative in his ridiculous demands and chose to purposely delay the return of our deposit to irritate/harass us. We felt bullied and the claims made by them were all lies and bullying tactics to get us to agree we were at fault, when we were not. I have also emailed to ask about the complaints procedure as Lisa O’Mahoney who works for this company in the property management department was of no help to us and supported the landlord in this ridiculous demands/claims as opposed to explaining to him that he was wrong. Regardless, raising a complaint won’t do much as this is family run so they will probably just ignore me. Worst experience I’ve ever had of dealing with mould and a landlord who is either an expert at lying and making things up, or extremely forgetful! Thankfully, the TDS decision was in our favour and we got the majority of our money back. Please avoid where possible, these people will bully and harass the heck out of you! Knowing that there is a massive mould issue here, the ridiculous landlord/agent have still brought new tenants in, worst thing is they even have two little kids, I feel awful for them! No regard/concern for tenant health, only want to steal people’s money where possible.... Read more
