Appalling handling of tenancy deposit — avoid
We vacated our property at Masters Court, Harrow on 30 January 2026 in good condition, and over a month later we have still not received our deposit back. The handling of this entire process by Connells has been deeply disappointing.
Despite sending multiple emails and attempting to call numerous times, we have received nothing but vague responses saying they are "still liaising with the former landlord." No clear timeline, no transparency, and no accountability. Phone calls have gone unanswered, and no direct contact number has been provided despite requests.
The items flagged in the checkout report are standard fair wear and tear under TDS guidelines — minor wall marks, limescale build-up typical of Harrow's hard water, None of these justify withholding our deposit.
To make matters worse, wife is 24 weeks pregnant, and the unnecessary financial stress caused by this prolonged delay has had a real impact on her mental health and wellbeing. This is completely unacceptable.
We have now raised a formal dispute through the tenancy deposit scheme, which should never have been necessary. We have never experienced such poor deposit handling with any previous letting agency.
If you are a prospective tenant — be warned. We would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Terrible people, waste of time and seem dodgy.
They called me on Tuesday and booked an appointment for me on Friday, i recieve a text confirmation. I asked my dad to take the morning off his work to attend this.
Then they give me a miss call on Thursday so I call back and they say the sales department will call me to confirm. Few hours later I get a text saying the viewing has been cancelled and then my dad called from his number and they answered and book us in for Saturday.
I recieve a 2 calls on Friday to ask if I am okay with the appointment tomorrow.
My dad and I both drove to the property and reached at 12:05 (10 minutes before appointment) then 2 guys reached there at 12:15 they were also booked with the same agent. Another lady followed shortly after, but no estate agent, then i called Connells they said the agent is only 5 minutes away. So we waited and then i called back at 12:28, they were not answering my calls. They wasted our along with other people's Saturday morning /afternoon waited from 12:05 - 12:35, and petrol driving there. I called them from another number at 12:35 and they said oh they agent was at the property at 12:15 but noone was there. When I said that's a lie because 4 of us were standing outside from 12:10 she just cut the phone.
Very dodgy because someone who lived across the road asked us "is the lady Patricia back, she was in Poland it's her flat" made us feel that Connells may not have permission to sell this property.

I’m very disappointed with the way this agency handled our tenancy process. I paid a £300 holding deposit to secure the property, expecting clear communication and professionalism in return.
We were originally told the move-in date would be the 20th of June, but without any proper notice, it was suddenly changed to the week of the 30th. This unexpected change disrupted our plans and caused unnecessary stress.
On top of that, they failed to inform us about the guarantor requirements until the last minute, which added more pressure and confusion to the process.
When people commit financially to a property, they deserve timely and transparent updates. Sadly, that was not my experience here. I hope this agency takes steps to improve their communication and reliability going forward

I would give 0 stars if i could. Contacted their manager Tudor for a house and requested a viewing, he said a pre contract and some checks are needed so requested my docs. After sending all my docs (from genuine trust) he made a contract and sent it to me, there was a request to sign and pay a deposit. When I asked how can I pay a deposit for a house I didn’t even view he said “no agency in the uk holds viewings without deposits because the agents don’t have the keys and they have to contact the landlord” when I told him I had some viewings going this week without paying anything but I want to view more houses he said “yeah and why didn’t you rent those houses, it’s because you were not accepted” and became very rude saying “well you don’t understand how it works” and “i thought you want to rent not to view” i kept saying that viewings are made prior to paying the deposit (even the holding deposit) and he started blaming me saying he wants to help and I am very disrespectful and I seek some revenge or something, but I just wanted to view the house and then decide if I want to continue the process (how it works everywhere in the UK at this day). The deposit they requested was quite a high one and after reading more reviews on here I was thankful I didn’t send it because there are 0 chance I would have gotten it back. In the end i requested for him to remove the photos of my passport i sent him from his database at which he went angry and said he is putting a ban on my name through all the agencies and I have to come to their branch to explain what it was and collect my ban - which is nonsense but I think he was trying to scare me intro paying that deposit. The only thing I did wrong was trusting him and wanting to rent through him. Please be aware and don’t send any money before viewing a property.

They sold a property which we had our offer accepted on, not even considering to ask us for counter offer or to stop for a second to think for the costs we were incurring from the transaction.
They pick up the phone only 10% of the time and answer emails at about the same rate. If you’re trying to buy any property from them - good luck, we for sure will need it.

Our experience with this estate agency has been extremely disappointing. They proposed a property to us that had significant restrictions, which they failed to disclose. We only discovered these issues six months later through our solicitors.
The agency’s customer service is appalling. Every time I called, I was told the manager was on another call and would return my call, which never happened. Their communication is minimal, with infrequent email replies merely stating that matters are being “chased.”
We are now more than six months into the process with no clear timeline, no information about potential chains, and no idea what is happening.
Avoid this agency at all costs!

Worst. Avoid at all costs, seriously.
I have been complaining officially by email and phone over 6 months and not hearing any updates back from them. They will only contact you when they need you(and will spamming you ofc) but will never answer to your requests or complaints. Renting a property through Connells is the worst decision I made recent years :(

Avoid avoid avoid Worse than useless. I Put my house on the market with them They showed it to people that were not looking for that type of property just out for the day. No feed back despite several requests for feedback, failed to utilize key features like the summer house in the garden with electric and insulation they said because its an outbuilding they can't utilize it as a selling point, also not showing up for viewings among lots more other failings. When the contract ended I spoke to Rikesh the agent in charge to confirm the end of contract and relisting elsewhere and was told yes it has ended he will push the button to end the listing and I could do what I like in terms of selling with another estate agents.
We relisted elsewhere sold and a year later Connells demanded fees for the sale by way of a debt collection company this went on for approximately a year Connells in house complaints procedure is one sided and a joke it finally concluded with the ombudsmen deciding in my favour also stating Connells actions were inappropriate and I received a small compensation settlement so definitely AVOID THEM

We put our property on the market with connells harrow branch for an agreed 4 week period. Rikesh told us if it didn't sell we could walk away and do as we please. Connells sent anyone round just to tot up numbers and didn't seem to know who turned up and who didnt. They didnt sell the property so once the contract had ended we instructed another estate agent One year later a debt company called and said £6000 was owed to Connells.I instructed the property ombudsman to investigate and after a stressful and long period the ombudsman agreed nothing was owed and also awarded compensation. Rikesh and his team are untrustworthy and their inhouse investigation team are aware of time and biased.

I had an appointment to see a house, and no one came, I had the confirmation message, but no one came. I called the agency the first time they said I'm not in the system, after all they say you are but there is no one to come to show me the house, and the person who made the appointment is sick and didn't even notify me...
He said that someone would call me to make another appointment, and no one has called me until today.

Absolutely a waste of time they say it’s a zero deposit guarantee but they will ask first for deposit and after all waste of time and give you date then they will find an excuse the tenant has not found another place to live or the landlord has not accept your offer or whatever and then they will never your deposit back, make sure never give your deposit or holding deposit before you sign your contract.

Just following on like pretty much most of the negative comments on here, trying to arrange a viewing with Connells is painful.
Weeks between responses to emails, difficulty in getting them to call you back when trying to arrange a viewing. I'm uncertain if offers we've made on a property have actually been taken to the vendor.
Possibly I'm being a bit harsh but Connells really need to up their game. If I was selling a property with them and a potential buyers wanted a viewing, I'd be furious if my agent didn't make every effort to make this happen.

I called to arrange a viewing for a flat but the agent initially said all slots were booked. After mentioning that I was looking to move in as soon as possible they offered a same-day viewing. However, when I arrived, there were multiple other people scheduled for the same time. The agent never showed up, was not picking up the call when I was waiting for them at the accommodation and provided no follow-up afterwards. I wasted 2.5 hours on my weekend because of their irresponsibility. Avoid this agency if you value your time.

I had one of my worst property search experiences with this agent. I had a confirmed appointment for a property viewing at Empire Way, Wembley at 5:30 pm on 25/07/2022. I reached there a bit early, only to discover that there was no one present to show the property. I eventually met with the current tenant of the flat that I went to see. He politely refused to let me in and informed that the agent who was supposed to show the property had left a while ago.
I could not believe the lack of professionalism from this agent. On a busy weekday, I had to leave work early and travel an hour to meet with the agent who was a no-show! If the agent had to cancel the appointment for any reason, why can't they simply call or text me informing the same?

There mortgage broker decides whom to give the property because she will ask a one time £900 fee from you and if you refuse that then they won't send your offer to the vendor. I called up to book a viewing, I was told I’ll be the first one to view the property and will be sent the address via text. No message for 3 days.. on the day of the viewing I call up again asking for the address and was told it will be sent within 10 mins. Many hours pass by and I receive no message. Thankfully I used my great eyesight and the help of streetview to work out the door number from the listings pictures. Now that I arrive for my scheduled viewing, I notice theres 3 people waiting outside and all had been booked seperately for the same time as me. Strange I thought so I asked the agent who turned up and funnily enough he had no record of my details or my appointment. He didn’t make a fuss, he said I could still view. After waiting 25 mins after my scheduled time, he kindly let me view but said I should contact the office if I was interested. I called the office and was told the agent for this property is busy and they’ll call back. Based on what has already happened, I don’t think i’ll get a callback and the property im interested in will be long gone. Poor service, shows how motivated you are in providing good customer service so perhaps a career change might be better suited for this branch. Harrow could do with another takeaway instead of this Connells branch.

Harrow branch the worst agency I have ever met! I am working in property market and I have never seen that disorganized agency, the people who work there have no idea what they are doing, nobody is responsible for anything. I am chasing my deposit back for TWO MONTHS already !!!! Nobody is taking care of the tenants neither the landlords!!!! There is no way to get a response from them to my tons of emails, when I call they don’t know who should I speak with about the issue!!! It’s a MESS. If I could leave a minus score I really would have given one. I do not recommend anyone to use Connells to manage their proprieties. I chose Connells to manage a house in Harrow with a fully management package and the house ended up letting to some drug dealers turning the entire house to a cannabis farm. Connells denied any responsibilities or faults let alone any compensation.

Its a shame all estate agents aren't like this.

Untrustworthy and cancelled my agreement 2 days before move leaving me homeless.
I was pushed / harassed to put a deposit down for a property to rent. I paid the deposit on the conditions that the fridge would be moved from the living room. This was agreed by the agent Rick.
2 days before moving into the property, the contract was not sent to me. I thought this was very strange. I had handed my notice into my current property already. I called the agency they said we are not proceeding with the agreement as the landlord as rejected to rent to you. This was very infuriating as the reference was all complete and good to go.
Now Rick has decided to keep my deposit, due to no fault of my own. I will be seeking legal action if the deposit is not returned.

Without even properly marketing the property, he arranged 3 viewings that very evening. He managed to let my property within 24 hours and the tenant moved in a few days later. We moved into a new flat (which we took especially as it had parking) and parked our car in the appropriate parking space only to get a ticket from the car park management. Connells didn't inform us of the need for a permit or indeed pass on the permit to us. Had a member of their team actually been present at check in then this might have been avoided, but the keys were left with the concierge and we were left to check ourselves in. Five days later and we still hadn't received an inventory, we had to walk to the office and request it ourselves! All of that aside we are now set to be £200 pounds out of pocket! Despite raising the issue with the local branch (who apparently have no one to deal with lettings...), Zoe Wannerton at the main branch in Hemel Hempstead AND Amber Blower at the property management team. Despite our best efforts all we get is "I'm waiting to hear back from my manager", its been over 3 weeks now and we are still waiting!!!

I have had the most amazing mortgage adviser Leslie Alfred (Mortgage Services Consultant at Connells Harrow Office) . I cannot rate Leslie highly enough. He is very helpful, professional all the way through with my mortgage application and fully supportive at all times. Leslie has helped me through with the roller coaster changes which I had to faced when my initial vendor put her property selling process on hold, and I had to find another property to buy. I am more than thankful to Connells for helping me out with my application process which I had to started with my second choice of property from scratch. 6 years ago I was a first time buyer and I have to say Connells / Harrow office was the only lander who helped me to buy my first property. As I am a single women getting mortgage with good conditions not easy directly from the banks, but Connells helped and gave me brilliant advise through the process ,when and what to do ect, step by step they held my hand, brilliant service ! Also Connells helped me renewing my mortgage contract and I just move in my 2nd property in London. Unfortunately the process took a little bit longer than it should have, but this was no fault of Connells . I would without doubt fully recommend Connells Mortgage Advisers, especially Leslie Alfred in Harrow Office.

Treated badly! Went along to view a flat. All seemed very promising. I made an offer on a property and awaited their response. Nobody did, so after a couple of days, I rang them to be told by Neil that my offer had neither been accepted nor declined and that he would get back to me with a more definite decision by Monday, as the landlady has had two other offers and needs time to consider. I didn't receive any phonecall on that Monday. What a waste of time! Totally off putting.
I then rang their office last week and spoke to Paul who was apologetic and explained that Neil no longer works for the company.

Worst experience ever, paid a deposit for a flat I was interested in and then Neil the sales rep went missing eventually told me I would get my refund and 3 weeks later I'm still waiting having chased them all around for the deposit. I've contact head office and still have not gotten anyway do not use these people.

I had a worst experience with Neil Vera, the agent just lies all the time, he says and promises and when undone blamed his agency connels, he said the agency took alot of time in making agreement, he is not aware about the work and trained at all. Hello. 4 months ago I applied to the harrow agency to rent one apartment . After about three weeks of checks in which your agent impered every week other acts, I received the confirmation that everything was OK and that I could move. That after 2 days a day before I move to say that the landlord does not rent the apartment anymore. I asked him to go back and he has been postponed since then and continues to keep my money illegally.

I had the most shity experience with connells. I called them 10 times to inquire about property to buy. Not even once they called me back to fix viewings. Their email never reaches me. I showed up at the time allocated for viewing again I called them 4 times. They made me wait for 30 minutes. I had to park my car in paid parking and wasted my money big time and finally when I call them, there is no appologetic tone, the guy says my agent is showing property to some other client. How could that be! Over all, pathetic. I will never do business with them.
