Buying a property generally means nothing turns out the way you expect. Sawyer & Co know this and their experience, advice and patience, as well as their professionalism and help finding the right mortgage are extremely welcome during what is a stressful time when overwhelm, deadlines and the ‘will it ever happen’ voice in your head needs answering. Bob, Jackie, Kirsten and the team answered all my questions, sorted all the viewing requests, kept me up to date, nudged the process along when it needed nudging and had my back through the process. A good bunch of people. Highly recommended.

Excellent letting agents and very helpful. Thanks to Danica who promptly responded to my queries and quickly arranged a second viewing when I requested one. She was very thorough when providing information. The first lady who met us initially and the staff at the office were lovely as well. It is so easy to reach them.

My initial 5 star review was too generous and I got to know the lies about the property after I moved in. It has been 3 weeks, there is significant electricity faults here, heating not working and shower not working. The agent Danica said it was all " fine" before I paid my deposit but when these issues surfaced they pretended to "not know" saying landlord didn't tell them. This agency does not check landlords or properties before letting them. The only honest person is Molly but by then it was too late as I had moved in.

She clearly knew her stuff, outlining all of the practical and legal requirements present and future, while at the same time giving us confidence in a friendly, professional and efficient way, that she and her team could guide us through it all. So it has proved. She, Jess Fowler, and the others in the team have been magnificent throughout. No question is too small, and everything has been done with professionalism, efficiency and friendly good humour. Their office is welcoming and the staff are very approachable and knowledgeable. It is no surprise that a number of landlords have transferred over to them recently. Furthermore they install confidence that landlords’ interests are being looked after just as much as the tenants in the sense of renewals, that properties adhere to rental standards and everyone is informed throughout the tenancy. I have been with Sawyers for some years now and can't fault the service they have given me.
They have just managed a tenancy changeover with their usual efficiency.
The previous tenant has left satisfied and with most of his deposit returned, whilst new tenants have been secured very quickly.
Specifically, both Jess Fowler and Tracey Lewis have both been excellent and enabled a very smooth transition with the minimum of fuss.
Sawyers are probably the best letting agent in Brighton and also importantly, at least to me, they seem to treat their staff very well which translates to them giving an excellent customer service.
A seemingly obvious cause and effect which appears to elude some of the competition.

One of my worst experiences as a tenant.
After moving to Hove from London, where I’ve lived for 20 years, I was hoping for a smooth experience.
3 weeks into the tenancy I’m still waiting for things to be resolved.
Flat had an inventory which wasn’t worth the paper it was written on.
List of issues:
Flat not professionally cleaned - excuse from Joe the Letting Manager (LM). It doesn’t have to be professionally cleaned. They offered to clean the kitchen but I did it myself as who wants to live with a dirty kitchen.
Cooker and cooker hood doesn’t fully work- excuse from the LM - we could not expect the inventory to pick that up.
Rotten back door - excuse from LM -we could not expect the inventory to pick that up.
Windows don’t open - excuse from LM -we could not expect the inventory to pick that up.
1 of the fridges in the kitchen does not work - excuse from LM - we could not expect the inventory to pick that up.
Some of the blind cables are broken - excuse from LM - we could not expect the inventory to pick that up.
Wood lice coming into the spare room - excuse from LM -we could not expect the inventory to pick that up.
Some radiators don’t work. Excuse from LM -we could not expect the inventory to pick that up.
Think you all get the message. Zero accountability and minus 100 for empathy for what I’m going through.
Credit to the landlords as they are trying to resolve things and had the decency to apologise.
Shocking service from this company, especially their Lettings Manager.

However sawyer and co seemed to think it was acceptable to keep soliciting/searching for offers leading to the gazumping of an elderly couple, adding stress/anxiety to the already complicated process of moving house.
Give estate agents a bad name and wouldn’t trust as a buyer even as last resort.

I cannot recommend this company enough, from the very 1st meet to the phone call congratulating me on the completion of the sale of the property.
I was kept in the loop throughout the whole process, and all my questions were answered whenever I asked.

My parents recently had a very bad experience with Sawyer and Co.
Having made the decision to relocate to Hove and sell the family home of over thirty years they were delighted to have an offer accepted on a property via Sawyer and Co after a long search during which they had been outbid several times.
They were then deeply upset to have that reneged on the following week, and told a better offer had come in.
We understand that gazumping does happen sometimes, but we got the strong impression that Sawyer and Co allowed the offer to be accepted (and had commenced conversations around legal next steps) while also using it in tandem to continue to work behind the scenes to drum up more interest, in a way that felt unethical to us.
Given they were aware they were dealing with buyers nervous about making a big later-in-life move, and with a number of health issues, at the very least we felt that they demonstrated a lack of concern for the wellbeing of the house buyers they deal with.
We bought in Hove several years ago through another agency and had a much smoother experience and our dealings with Sawyer and Co. left us feeling that they don’t operate to the standards of transparency that one would hope for when entering into such significant transaction.

Estate agents come with a bit of a reputation - and in many cases, based on my extensive experience, it is warranted. But I found Sawyer and Co to be that bit more professional and sincere than their city rivals. Specifically, Simon Lemcke, who does not present as a 'salesman', was the reason we chose to sell with them. I don't like a sales pitch, simply giving answers to our questions for the sake of an answer, and the general waffle one has to experience throughout the buying and selling process. I am a straight-talker, am very detailed in my thinking, and appreciate honest, meant customer service. I felt we received this from Sawyer and Co, and if we were to buy/sell again next month I'd go straight back to Simon and his team. It's a tough market out there is this thriving city, and all agencies have a few agents that don't give you much confidence, but overall I was happy with the handling of our property sale, so much so that I thought it merited a review. As someone who works in customer service, I appreciate a job well done.

I had a really poor customer experience as a buyer with Sawyer and Co Hove. I made an offer on a property which was slightly under asking price. The way I was treated after that was terrible. I heard no response after multiple days and when I phoned to followup on my offer I was spoken to in a very rude and condescending way. It emerged the offer had not even been communicated to the seller which is actually a legal requirement. After reminding them of this my offer was finally communicated to the seller and rejected. I was then told the seller actually wanted more than the asking price. I recommended they update the ad then to save other sellers time and got no response and the ad is still up at the price the seller won't accept.
When I compare this to my experience with JacobSteel who I ended up buying my place through it was like chalk and cheese. I made an offer below asking price, I received advice they thought it was too low but they would get me an answer asap. I received a response within 4 hours which was a polite "that is too low, please go higher". I increased my offer and then had it accepted. The process was completed with fantastic customer service throughout.
This is my first property I have purchased in the UK. When it comes to buying or selling property in future I would be reluctant to do it through Sawyer and Co because of the poor customer experience I received.

Tracey handles all communication with the tenants and when any maintenance is needed she gets a quote and ensures that the work is done. It's fantastic! We recently needed to find new tenants and Cerys managed the process very efficiently, starting with a stunning digital brochure and ending a few weeks later with tenants happy with what the flat has to offer. Esme handled the viewings and was very communicative which helped to ensure that the expectations of prospective tenants could be fully met. Liars and thieves. Years of mould and damp due to leaking windows, holes in roofs which were just ignored. Water coming through windows just left despite constant emailing. Once we threatened to use the rent to fix the multiple issues faced by a complete lack of care from them and our landlord their response was to issue a section 21 (no fault) eviction.
To top it off they had the audacity to try and get us to pay for garden renovations with our deposit. Luckily the deposit scheme agreed with us.

When I relocated from Cambridge three years ago, I had used Savills as our Estate Agents, and that proved to be quite a nightmare. In terms of service quality and professionalism, Sawyer & Co. surpasses Savills by a significant margin.

I switched over to using Sawyer & Co. originally to let me flat as I was not satisfied with another local letting agency. The letting service provided by Kerry-Anne and her team was excellent. I then decided to sell the flat and Elliot within the sales team handled the sale, again nothing short of an excellent and professional service. It's always difficult selling a tennanted property, but this was not a problem for Elliot and his team. Next I liased with Bob who looks after the post sale process to ensure all the correct legal paperwork has been collected for each solicitor, (buyers and sellers). Again, flawless and a sale that probably would not have been achived without the help from this professional team. I would happily work with this agency again and recommend to both friends and family - Thank you Sawyer and Co. Keep doing what you do best.

The landlord herself was a pleasent, efficient and helpful person and all admin had been carried out professionally.
However the black mould that we had been breathing in for 2 years that the agency "treated" by, on one occasion spiritzing with anti bacterial spray and then painting over in ONE of the areas of the flat that had a black mould problem was...
Well, let's just say if this manifests in some malign lung issues in the future I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, a child (Awaab Ishak of Rochdale) was killed recently and the blood is on the hands of landlords just didn't want to actually face up to the fact that's yeah, their company might need to fix a that a property was a hazard to health but some people money means more to them than another persons life. Yep. Shame on them.

We’ve been with Sawyer and co for the last few months and they’ve been so good with fixing things - we’ve had a few things and they’ve always sent someone out quickly and been friendly! Our boiler broke at 5pm and someone still came out that evening which was such a relief. It’s been really useful!

There isn’t enough words to explain how amazing simon is! He wasn’t my estate agent but He was dealing with the property I was buying. I had multiply problems my end due to challenging buyers but Simon waited over 6 months and never once got frustrated and had he not of been involved the sale and purchase never would of went ahead. To be honest he could of easily called it a day as he spent so much time and effort supporting me and my family to make sure this all went ahead that it would of been quicker for him to just sell the house to someone else. He did all the negotiations and if I had a problem I didn’t even go to my estate agents I always went to Simon (you would of thought he was the agent I used to sell my house) that’s how much this man did for me. He went away on holiday and during that time the chain collapsed Simon rung me the minute he landed in Gatwick he had barely stepped of the plane and within half hour he spoke to my agent and got the sale and purchase back on track. He’s a genuine kind person and he cares about his buyers and sellers and The only regret I have is not meeting him sooner because I would of asked Simon to sell my house. To anyone reading this if your selling or buying ask for Simon you won’t regret it and he will see you through every step of the way. No repairs were ever done on my flat including a fallen down fence and uninstalled bathroom tiles, there was no carbon monoxide alarm so the property shouldnt have been let anyway, landlords and neighbours were allowed to harass and assault us and then the letting agent tried to illegally force a cleaning clause on us 9 days before moving out of a spotless flat. Huge scammers.

We moved the sale of our flat to Sawyers after poor service from another estate agent in Hove. We dealt initially with Hass who proved as good as his word and achieved an offer for us within days of showing the flat. We loved Hass’ very positive but also realistic and honest advice on what our flat could achieve. He kept in touch, always returned a call and updated us regularly. We also dealt with Bob Beaken once offer accepted. Bob is a character and his customer service was also fabulous. The sale was very protracted but Bob plugged away, liaised brilliantly with both sides and the solicitors and helped us get the sale completed. Thanks to you both for being so professional and upbeat during quite a stressful time. You kept us sane and for a couple of estate agents you are not half bad!

I would strongly recommend Sawyer and Co, as they are a professional and highly efficient organisation. As a landlord of a flat in Hove, I needed a rapid process to renovate it and get it on the letting market. As I live a long way from Brighton, I needed an organisation with strong links to local companies who could get things moving and advise me on the best way forward. Kerry- Anne picked the mantle and moved things forward incredibly quickly. She is incredibly professional and led the entire process of turning the flat around and putting it on the letting market. It could potentially have been stressful and full of delays, but due to her professionalism, it was all handled very smoothly, and I always knew what was happening. I have used other letting agents in the Hove area before, and found they were not on top of the maintenance, could not access suppliers to sort plumbing and electrical issues and generally came to me with problems, not solutions. Kerry-Anne was therefore a breath of fresh air!!
