I am extremely disappointed with my experience with John Shepherd. I felt misled by the way certain issues were handled, and I found the overall management unprofessional.<br><br>I was charged around £400 for cleaning, which I believe is extremely excessive. Maintenance was also poor, with repairs often delayed or left unresolved.<br><br>One of the most frustrating issues was that they attempted to charge me around £300 for a broken curtain cord, even though it was already damaged before I moved in. I do not believe they properly investigated whether the damage existed before my tenancy.<br><br>The bed was also broken before I moved in, yet it was included in the checkout report and appeared to be considered for deductions from my deposit.<br><br>Based on my experience, there appears to be a serious lack of proper inspections and accountability. I do not believe sufficient checks were carried out to distinguish pre-existing damage from damage caused during my tenancy.<br><br>I was always cooperative throughout my tenancy, but I felt that I was treated unfairly.<br><br>Overall, a very disappointing experience, and I would not recommend John Shepherd.

I highly recommend Chino to anyone looking for a reliable and professional rental experience. Chino was extremely helpful, approachable, and attentive throughout the entire process, ensuring everything was handled smoothly and efficiently. Communication was excellent, and all our questions were answered promptly, making the experience straightforward and stress-free from start to finish. We truly appreciate the outstanding service and support provided and would not hesitate to recommend Chino to other renters.

John Shepherd have been incredibly disappointing. The apartment that I was given was entirely different to the one that I viewed, despite being assured that this would be the one which I would receive. Further, the place was incredibly dirty and had clearly not been cleaned properly (if at all). For example, the fridge and freezer compartment were both covered in mould (as shown in the images). Despite having contacted John Shepherd about these issues on the day that I picked up the keys (9/9/26) and promoting a response in between, I have still heard nothing back (2/10/26). This is extremely worrying conduct from a company with an alleged 'trusted name'.

I had a completely unprofessional experience with John Shepherd Estate & Letting Agents regarding a rental property in the Gravelly Hill area. On June 23rd, I submitted a viewing request through Rightmove for a flat where I fully met all the pre-qualification criteria mentioned in their listing, including income, move-in date, and tenant profile. Since I received no response, I went in person to their office on June 24th. They confirmed that my request was in their system and told me I would be contacted later that day to arrange a viewing.
That call never came. I followed up again by email on June 25th, which was also ignored. Meanwhile, I tried calling multiple times during working hours, but their phone line appears to be permanently down. It always plays a message saying no one is available, with no way to leave a voicemail. This is not only unprofessional, it makes them completely unreachable.
To make matters worse, the listing was marked as "out of market" on June 25th without any notice or explanation. I was never informed if the property was let, withdrawn, or if I was being considered at all. No courtesy email, no update, nothing.
I made every effort to follow their process, I showed genuine interest, I visited their office, followed up in writing and by phone, and I met all their listed requirements. In return, I received complete silence and zero transparency. This is not just poor service – it is a total lack of respect for applicants.
If you are a prospective tenant, I strongly advise caution when dealing with this branch. My experience showed a complete breakdown in professionalism, communication, and basic standards of letting practice.
