30th Mar 2026 (14 weeks ago)Peter Murray made an illegal will for my uncle, Sir Michael Maxwell Bt, in 2013, who was in the depths of frontal lobe dementia (this was against medical and legal advice). They were the sole executor and sole witness to this will. Micheal had been sectioned and told he could not make a will in England prior to this. They hid a relevant doctor’s letter which was only extracted by lawyers. The firm has refused to admit liability despite overwhelming and unequivocal evidence and caused huge headache a heartache for our family over the past 5 years and huge legal costs. They are unprofessional and to be avoided at all costs. They have also stopped family staying at our family home - Monreith- and prevented my mother’s burial there. It is disgusting. The contents of the will are inconceivable to all family and destroy our family’s 800 year history in Dumfries and Galloway.
20th Jun 2025 (1 year ago)Unfortunately, we found our experience with Thorntons to be pretty disappointing. Our initial contact was fine, but we suspect the house was valued too highly, & after 11 weeks and 2 price drops, we still had not one single viewer. Our contact in the office was away on holiday, & when I rang to speak to the person appointed to deal with the house in the interim, she seemed clueless as to who I was or anything about the house. We took the decision to remove the house from Thorntons and advertise it at auction. We did this, & accepted an offer within a few days of doing so. We understand that the market in St Andrews is very flat just now, but feel that Thorntons did very little to try and help us achieve a sale.

18th Mar 2026 (16 weeks ago)Absolutely useless service from Colin Tomney letting agents. They’ve now cancelled my appointment AGAIN at the last minute. No warning, no apology worth mentioning, just a complete disregard for other people’s time. It’s honestly shocking how unprofessional they are. If you enjoy having your time wasted and being messed around, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, avoid and find an agent that actually knows how to organise a basic appointment.

27th Jul 2016 (9 years ago)The purpose of this review is not to be defamatory or be untrue it is simply an account of my experience of MacPhee & Co. So here is my sorry story. I employed MacPhee & co to sort out legally the custody of my daughter. While I had no problem as lawyers they were actually rather good. The problem started When I received a substantial bill, quite simply I felt they did not keep me informed as to what kind of fees they were running up. When after numerous and phone calls it became apparent that I couldn’t pay their fees straight away and despite agreeing that I pay in installments as quickly as I could. With 2 working days notice they resigned from the case leaving me unrepresented. Now in fairness they did give me a long time to pay the fees that was small comfort as due to trying to represent my self I lost nearly 50% of the access I had to my daughter prior to getting involved with them. This review is purely an account of my experience and I am not recommending you use them or not. The decision dear reader is yours. Finally despite legal letters promising all sorts of actions from them I’m still giving them one star.

In particular, Andrew and Eilidh were both very kind and competent and went out of their way to ensure a good outcome for all parties. Thank you!

I can't recommend them enough- 12th Sep 2023 (2 years ago)We had exceptional service from Thorntons from start to finish. Our house sold in 4 weeks and the sales team were just so professional. Communication throughout the process was excellent and once we accepted the offer on our house the legal team at Thorntons were equally exceptional. Our solicitor was always on hand to answer our questions and provide us with best advice. Thank you for taking the stress out of selling a house!

From the start he felt like the right fit for us, easy to chat to and clearly knew his stuff. He took the time to understand what the place meant to us and personally guided us through everything without it ever feeling stressful. When it came to offers his advice was spot on and definitely helped us get the result we wanted. Throughout the whole process, it never felt like things were happening to us, we always felt part of it and in control.
