Writing this review after a very long 14 month process to buy my first home. While it's been a stressful and anxiety-inducing period (due to lots of bad luck with previous sellers / attempted purchases), and there were many times where I thought I wouldn't ever cross the finish line with property buying, Vicky Barney and colleagues at Bernard's have been amazing in supporting me throughout.
I moved into my new place on Friday of last week, and now I'm able to get on with the next phase of life. I absolutely love it in there, and it's exactly the kind of property I've always wanted to own. None of it would have been possible without Vicky's incredible patience and endless troubleshooting on my behalf, making sure all of the dots were connected in this lengthy and intricate process.

Having lost my tenant shortly before Christmas I decided to go with Bernards at Fareham as they are near my property and know the area well. From the start, they were eager to please and after inspection of my property came up with a course of action to fix some issues and enable the flat to achieve the best rental return. I was dealing with Patrik Belteky who was always on hand to answer questions or give advise. With a good number of viewings lined up it was not long before a suitable tenant was found. With all the checks carried out I am happy to say that he is moving in before the end of January. I have had an excellent selling experience with Bernards; although a big company they haven’t lost their personal touch.
I was very impressed with the ‘Sales Progresser’, which title I had not come across before. A young lady by the name of Donna Abbot. Very polite, friendly and helpful.
Donna quickly ‘took charge’ of the chain and ensured that information flowed between all the parties, conveyancers and solicitors.
Nothing was too much trouble for her; always ready to listen and help.

But a special mention for Donna Abbott at the Fareham office who dealt with ensuring the legal side all went through within my preferred timescale. Donna was exceptional, to the extent that she even replied to emails on a couple of occasions in her own time in the evenings. David Morgan arrived on time on 29 Oct. - our preferred date for valuation. He clearly explained the current market, the proposals for marketing the house and the terms and conditions of. his agency. His valuation was similar to other local agents we spoke to on the same day. We asked him to proceed the following day and arranged that photos and EPC would be carried out on 5 Nov. We approved the sale particulars and valuation that evening and the house was live on the market on 6 Nov. By the end of that day we were notified of 2 viewing appointments, the first on 9 November. By the end of that day we were told that not only had an offer been made, but the prospective buyers had offered more than the asking price to secure the sale from any further viewings. We look forward to a successful conclusion!

Our property had been on the market for a very long time. However once Bernards estate took over, it sold in a matter of weeks. Bernards also recommended a Solicitor via the Conveyancing Portal. In our experience the Portal was useless as the tracker was never updated. The solicitor, was also mainly reactive requiring many requests for status/progress updates. We were therefore very thankful for Donna who is the progress chaser at Bernards. She is a star and a real assist in pushing the sale through with all parties. Thank you Donna!!

We recently listed a rental property through a local agent, but had not let it after 6 weeks. We thought all agents were the same and everyone was on rightmove so it wouldn't matter. However, we found Amber again - now at Bernards Estate agents and instructed her. Within 48 hours she had secured us a tenant, they moved in yesterday. All agents are not the same and Amber Shaw is a super star. She is responsive, fast moving, realistic and positive, a pleasure to deal with. After getting in touch with Bernard’s to view a house, we were quickly put thru and recommended to Jamie to give us a second opinion on our original Decision In Principle. We had a phone call booked the same day, and after an hour, we came away with much greater confidence, that the original ‘advise’ we had been offered wasn’t great at all… Jamie quickly put our minds at ease as we entered into buying a house for the first time and had no clue of what to expect or how the process goes. We really couldn’t fault the experience what so ever. Jamie has been great from start to finish, and in my opinion going that extra mile at all times to get the job completed. We have now had our mortgage offer completed, shortly just after two weeks of entering into the process with Jamie. Better still, having two young children and running a business, we haven’t even had to leave the house during this process, having communicated with Jamie alongside phone calls and emails at all hours. (Again, going the extra mile!!) - As above, we really can’t fault Jamie at all and would use his expertises should we need to down the line!

We sold through Bernard’s Waterlooville in December 2020 and they were such an attentive, efficient and supportive team, me and my husband were delighted to hear that a lot of the same people had moved to the Fareham branch so we could deal with them all over again with our new house move this year as I felt we built such a good rapport and have a good working relationship with them from the previous time.
We started with contacting Chris again as he was just brilliant last time and oversaw our house sale last time. He swiftly got the process started and we had viewings galore soon booked. And not long after, potential buyers produced some offers..
The process was not without a bit of unluck though as we lost houses that we wanted due to troublesome sellers but whenever we lost our own buyer if the chain fell apart, Bernard’s were super quick to sort it out and get us another buyer.
Chris really kindly offered to get our mortgage underway with Bernard’s too to speed up the process, waivering the brokerage fee for us (perhaps as a goodwill gesture as we used the company before) which was brilliant and so good of him. Vicky got our mortgage all sorted and passed for us all in a morning which was again just first class service.
Once our chain was more established, the sale was dealt with by Toby. Right from the get go, Toby was really efficient, attentive to keeping us updated, professional and friendly and determined to get this sale through for us as quickly as possible. We had issues with our solicitors which Toby persevered to press them for timely responses right until the end. He was brilliant at contacting the entire chain to ensure contact was retained and all moving parts of the chain were resolved as quickly as possible.
Although the sale of our house and subsequent purchase was not without its ups and downs, Bernard’s facilitated as smooth a process as possible for us with a first class service to match as always. The guys (and Vicky) are a credit to the company. And although we have previously recommended them to both my parents and my sister (who then used them), we would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else looking to purchase a house if you want an exceptional service.
We would only ever contact them alone if we ever needed to move house again (hopefully only if needed now to downsize when we retire!!!!).

After being with a long established agent and having viewings from people not suited to our property we were very disappointed with our prospects of getting a sale. We decided to change to Bernard’s who seemed to have a fresh approach. Toby Beagley came for a chat and understood straight away that our target audience was a bit niche. The photos & walk around video for social media (something not offered by our previous agent) helped prospective buyers understand our unique property. Chris, from Bernards, said that he could take photographs during the valuation, and if I was to go with Bernards, he could put the flat up for sale as soon as possible.

Professional informed and well presented house x 2. David understood the requirement we have, determined how they would fit into the properties he had selected and also how to overcome the obvious compromises a buyer has to consider. For us 7 cars and 4 adults. David knew the vendors very well, had a wealth of knowledge about the properties and answered all our questions.
