We started by visiting the house we were planning to buy. The first visit was fine. The problems began after we made the offer. For technical reasons, our mortgage adviser told us that he couldn’t contact Connells. So, we intervened and went directly to Connell office to inform them about the issue, as no one was answering the phone. When we arrived, the man who seemed to be the manager of the Chelmsford branch became very frustrated with our presence and the fact that we were asking him to check the email, including the spam folder. He was visibly irritated by this but still tried to appear as polite as possible. Eventually, he found the email.
After some time, we requested the second visit to see the garden and attic as during the first visit, they didn’t have the keys to the doors leading to the garden and shed. We have to call several times just because our request was ignored by the different members of staff saying that they needed a type of insurance to let us to see the attic, but it wasn’t possible since we were already in 2025 and the old insurance was valid only until the end of 2024.
The branch manager spoke to us rather rudely and told us that we had asked too many times to see the house, placing a condition: we could only visit when he is available.
Furthermore, during a phone conversation, the manager told us, "Even if you go up to the attic, what will you understand, you are not a specialist .
How do you find this attitude towards clients?
Shortly after, we received a phone call and manager informed us that "the homeowner doesn’t want to and isn’t too 'happy' to show us the attic." However, we later found out from the homeowner that she had no idea about our requests to visit the attic, and for her, it wasn’t a problem at all, since it’s normal not to hide anything.
In the end, to be able to see the attic, we had to contact our solicitors to rinse an enquiry and ask them to let us to see the attic ( following the health and safety regulations) as this is our right as a buyers.
We sowed the attic just a day before the exchange of contract because 2 months we was waiting for the manager to prepare kind of safety form for our appointment .
The management team at the Connells Chelmsford branch takes on commitments and responsibilities in cases where they shouldn’t. The lack of professionalism and respect towards clients is evident

If you are looking to sell your house in Chelmsford, don't use connells. They say what you want to hear so they can sell your house and basically put it on rightmove hoping it sells itself. I found out the day of the open house they only put our information in there window about our house. No for sale sign was offered for our house unitl i mentioned at asked for it. If they can't sell it within a week, they stop communicating with you. We had to always chase them for an update, which we would still rarely get. Then will recieved a letter from there debt collection department for a payment for an EPC survey we had done through them. I acknowledge we had to pay for this and and have now paid for having forgot about it. However, my disappointment is again no communication about payments required or any communication for connells chelmsford about any outstanding fee. Just sent strategy to the debt collectors.
In the approx 2month we were with them we had 4 viewings of out house. Within 2 week of our new agent we had 9 viewings and was updated after every viewing.

“I had a very disappointing experience with this estate agent. Communication was poor from the start, with emails and calls often going unanswered. When I finally did get a response, the information provided was incomplete and misleading. They promised to follow up on certain issues, but nothing ever came of it. Additionally, the property was not as described, and I felt misled during the entire process. I would not recommend this agency to anyone looking for professional service or transparency.

We cancelled our contract with connells several weeks back because we had decided to no longer sell. I took the for sale board down and left it on the floor for it to be taken away. I have come home this afternoon to find the board has been reinstated and changed to sold. It has NOT been sold by connells. This seems like they want people to believe that they have sold a property when they haven’t.

Booking confirmation on Tuesday for a viewing on Friday - no one showed up for the viewing. I waited half an hour outside the property and didn’t get a call/email/text to say they were running late. In fact, I called the branch 10 times on my phone and it didn’t seem to connect. I called twice on another phone and there was the same issue. Very unprofessional.

Not had input with estate agents side of Connells, but rather the mortgage advisor Christopher Smith, whose knowledge of the market and mortgage products was invaluable, he helped guide us and updated us on any changes such as a new mortgage offer when the existing one pulled its product, Chris was professional, patient and kept us update on everything. Additionally it was advantages that he worked on Saturdays which is good to know if you work full time, Chris had a good rapport, non judgmental an ultimate professional in his field and an asset to Connells.

From start to finish, Aston has gone above and beyond for the sale of my property. constantly updated, always calls when he says, never under delivers. contactable after hours to work around my schedule, but more importantly 100% honest - having dealt with other agents in Chelmsford it seems common a-lot tell you what you want to hear, Aston does NOT do this. cannot recommend highly enough and i can promise that he will be the ONLY agent i ever use for buying or selling. i will personally recommend anyone to just pick up the phone and contact Aston 10 stars wasn't an option so 5 it is.....

Buying a house can be a wearisome process but the Connells team made it a breeze. For starters, when you call, they pick up the phone, when you email, they respond quickly. It may sound trivial but this was the case particularly throughout the Covid Crisis - which was incredibly helpful at a time where many other EAs were unable to respond promptly. Shellie-May is an outstanding mortgage advisor - so if you are looking to get a mortgage just make sure she's leading the case and you'll be fine.

Although I didn't purchase through Connells Chelmsford i dealt with their mortgage adviser Shellie-May. Literally the best experience I could have wished for. As a first time buyer purchasing by myself i struggled to understand a lot of things but nothing was too much for Shellie-May. This is the third time we have used Connells and would recommend them to sell your house. Mary at the Chelmsford branch helped us through what was a difficult sale due to the size of our onward chain keeping all parties informed through to completion. It has been good to use a local agent that has good knowledge and it is a personal service that you won’t get with an online agency. We will certainly use them again.

Connells were not my Estate agent, they sold the house I was buying, I have to say that Mary was brilliant, I had lots of contact with her and she really kept me informed of how things were progressing, I was so impressed with her dedication, I hardly had any contact with my estate agent and was very impressed that Mary took the time to contact me so much, I would definitely go with connells next time.
