We want to share our incredibly frustrating experience with Connells Estate Agents in Yate, specifically regarding a property we viewed in February. Our journey, unfortunately, was riddled with poor communication, misleading information, and what felt like a complete disregard for us as buyers.
From the outset, there were red flags. Upon arriving at the property, the estate agent, Alesha, immediately informed us of her personal friendship with the seller. Despite this, we liked the property and decided to make an offer. We specifically asked about the sellers' moving timeline and current position, and Alesha assured us they were "very keen to move" and serious about securing another property.
However, once our offer was submitted, the process quickly deteriorated. Our first offer, just £5,000 below the asking price, was rejected after a four-day wait. Throughout this period, getting clear information from Connells was nearly impossible; we received conflicting details from different staff members, and it often felt like no one was being truthful. We constantly had to chase them for updates.
The pressure to use Connells' in-house services was also significant. We were pushed to use their recommended solicitors, from whom we heard nothing for three weeks. Their mortgage advisor was equally pushy and, ironically, after our offer was accepted, he disclosed that the sellers were "very picky" and seemingly "nowhere near" ready to move – a stark contradiction to Alesha's earlier assurances.
Our attempts to arrange a second viewing of the property were also met with resistance; the sellers cancelled our scheduled visit just an hour beforehand. Three weeks after our offer was accepted, and after waiting two weeks for a memorandum of sale and still hearing nothing from their solicitors, we decided to withdraw our offer.
It's now July, and those sellers are still in the property, which has been on the market since January. Our experience confirms our belief that Connells was focused solely on their commission. Their communication was consistently poor and misleading, demonstrating a clear lack of care for buyers, whom they seemingly view as just a number.
We've since moved into and renovated our new home with an independent estate agent, and the difference was stark. To save yourself considerable stress and headache, we strongly advise considering an independent estate agent over Connells.

Buying and selling a home is, in my experience, traumatic at the best of times and anyone will tell you how stressfull the whole process is.
Thankfully, I had the good sense to both buy and sell through Connells, and throughout the very long legal process, Connells were supportive, understanding and professional.
More importantly I felt that the team at Yate genuinely cared about my circumstances.
Sharon, Jean and Jo especially did all they could to communicate effectively between all parties, offer guidance where needed and make the whole process as smooth as possible.

They are a little more pushy with getting you to go through their mortgage/financial advisor than other estate agents but were okay with it when I explained I didn’t want to. I did have a brief chat with the advisor though before confirming I didn’t want to go ahead.
Communication was great and everyone was really friendly.

Our initial experience with Connells was good and professional. If this review was based solely on this, we would have given 5 stars however this changed once we began house viewings/received an offer.
We received an offer on our property after the first day of viewings with those who were on Connells books (and before our property was published online). The office manager, Sharon, pressured us into making a decision of either accepting or declining, within 2 hours of when she was due to finish work for the day. (At this point, our house was on the market for 1 working day).
We informed Sharon that ‘we are happy with the offer’ but did not say ‘we would like to accept’. Sharon took this and informed the buyers that we had accepted and cancelled the viewings for later that week.
Sharon also failed to inform us at this time that a number of others were interested in viewing our property. Her response to this was ‘that we would have 100s of viewings’, instead of informing us, which we believe should have been our decision to make on how many viewings we would like on the house, she made this decision herself by not telling us.
This felt like we were another ‘tick’ on Connells list, that they sold a house in a quick time without actually having our best interests in mind.
We met with Connells to discuss our concerns, Sharon turned up to the meeting confrontational and argumentative and did not once apologise.
For the majority of the time, it felt as if their priority were the buyers, not us as the sellers (who were actually paying them). It was made clear that this wasn’t the case, as the buyers contacted us directly for updates because they were getting no response from Connells and Connells internal solicitors.
After speaking to the buyers, we discovered that Connells lied on occasions for their own benefit:
Once the offer had been accepted, Connells told the buyers that ‘the sellers want everything to go in house’ (i.e through their solicitors and mortgage advisor) and subsequently told us that ‘the buyers put the offer in based on you going through in house’.
We did NOT once say to Connells that this was a request for us, as we ourselves chose our own solicitors and mortgage advisor that had no connection to Connells.
Connells lied to both parties for their benefit, to get money in through their accounts.
During the process, the first house we put an offer in fell through, during this time Connells told us ‘to take our time’ and that they would manage the buyer’s expectations.
This lasted for about a week, we were then chased multiples times a week on if we had found another house.
We pressured on more than one occasion to break the chain so that the buyers would move into our property which would mean we would have had nowhere to live. We explained our circumstance every time that this would not be possible but we’re repeatedly asked.
We completely understand that the market is crazy at the moment, however when faced with difficult situations, our approach would have been to seek advice from Connells (as that’s their job) however, decisions were made that were not theirs to make and we were told of the outcome afterwards.
Communication throughout the whole experience has been poor. As an estate agents, we would expect to rely on them for advice - but we ended up advising them of the sale stages we were going through.
Customer service overall has been terrible and dealings with the branch manager has been the worst experience with an estate agent we’ve ever had.
Connells caused additional stress to an already stressful process and based on this we would not recommend.

when calling the yate office to enquire about properties advertised, you either get the answerphone or "someone will call you back" to which no one ever seems to..
they have some really nice properties on the market but its almost impossible to get any information on them or show any interest in purchasing them.

We bought our new home through Connells Yate. It was a particularly challenging move due the the buyers conveyancers on our side of the chain, and the vendor for our new home being very eager to get the move completed. Connells (Sharon and Rio in particular) managed the situation very well and were in regular contact with myself, our estate agents and the conveyancers. And without Sharon's help in chasing up the conveyancers we may not have got this completed in time for the stamp duty holiday.

My husband and I had the most horrendous and appalling experience with this estate agent! If possible I wouldn't give them any stars at all. Below are the reasons why:
1. No communication at all - Every time we try to contact them we always end up on voicemail or "voicemail is full" making it impossible to leave a message. If you get to leave a voicemail there was never a call back. They are also NEVER responsive to emails. Or even if you get a hold of them mainly from Sharon the branch manager the response is - "Can't talk long I will be on a meeting soon", will call you back" With this response you feel rushed and guess what we NEVER EVER got a call back! That's customer service down the drains for you.
2. They fed our buyers LIES and WRONG information that they we were so close to backing down. If we hadn't stepped in and got in touched with our buyers ourselves, our buyers would have backed down from the offer. As communication from Connells was non-existent throughout the whole process, both our buyers and I agreed to keep each other updated as Connells' communication and customer service is absolutely rubbish - Making us do their job and they were NEVER EVER apologetic about this.
3. During the last 2 weeks before completion after months of radio silence and not caring at all suddenly we received frantic phone calls from Sharon imploring to get things done - when bearing in mind that she hasn't done anything at all to help us get to the final stage. By that time we were only communicating directly to our solicitors, buyers and vendor's estate agent and have decided to take Connells out of the equation as said numerous times they do not know what good communication and customer service mean.
4.On completion day, when we tried ringing the office to let them know that the house is clear and we have moved and that they can inform our buyers they can pick up the house keys. Guess what, and I was already expecting this NO ONE ANSWERED the phone, luckily this time their voicemail wasn't full and I was able to leave it a message. I didn't want to leave it just at that and message our buyers myself that they can go and collect the keys. Our buyers told us they never received a phone call from Connells about key pick up. And when they went to pick up the keys it was just handed over to them, with no congratulations, etc...
And yes, there are so much more scenarios similar to this. The process of house move and sell is stressful and enough and Connells caused more stress than actually helping us throughout the whole process.
So if you value excellent communication, customer service and being valued as a customer DO NOT EVER GO WITH THIS estate agent!

Although we haven't yet decided if the property will be right for us we were so impressed with Julie's professionalism and determination to help us gain the information we needed in order to make a decision.
