9th Sep 2025 (6 mo. ago)I would definitely recommend Thomas if you are looking for a brilliant estate agent. His knowledge, communication and feedback went above and beyond what I had ever expected. He answered any queries which I had very promptly .....he gave me excellent advice from our first point of contact. Thomas and Kellie offered ideas to 'tweek' certain aspects of my property to make it more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.....which obviously helped as he achieved a sale within four weeks!!! Well done to Thomas and his staff at Essex Guild Homes!!!

I found them to be very professional, knowledge and they have me some great tips in order to finally sell my home. We went ahead with Big Black Hen and there suggestions and hey presto, our house sold. Ive since recommend Big Black Hen to my friends and family. Great service

They answered our questions and they have communicated with us via email or telephone. They were on it when we wanted to chase our vendor’s solicitor. I would highly recommend them. After numerous calls spanning over the course of a month and promising us many callbacks, we eventually decided to look elsewhere. Whenever you call their number the member of staff you get through to is utterly useless, would give zero stars if I could. Absolutely terrible service!

22nd May 2021 (4 years ago)If I could of put 0 stars I would of Pointless for this place to be up and running NO ONE and I mean no one ever replies to your emails, they advertise properties yet do not reply when your requesting a viewing Rude ignorant people do not waste your time with them.
10th Jan 2026 (10 weeks ago)AVOID! Utter incompetent timewasters. They want to rent your property out without sharing RIGHT TO RENT reports of potential tenants. This report shows whether a tenant has passed the Affordability & income check. Why is this important? If the tenant decides to stop paying rent, you can claim the rent back from your Landlord insurance's Rent protection service. If the tenant failed the check and you still rented it out to them, you would be paying the mortage while getting no rent. It was frustating dealing with them. They would not share the reports of potential tenants after multiple requests and then went quiet all of a sudden. I lost out on a month's rent! Their managing director is an absolute bell end and she needs to learn some manners on how to deal with clients. Clients are paying you love, you are not doing things for free. EDIT : in response to what they have replied to my review : I did not realize that reviews could only be left at certain times! Let's talk about "it became clear that the expectations being placed on us did not align with our moral, responsible and professional standards as a regulated agency." So, a landlord has no right to see the full Right to rent report but still has to blindly sign an agreement with a tenant in your delusional universe? I am not sure which regulatory body you are a member of because I would surely love to have a word about your establishment's incompetency with them. This is the type of estate agent that will quickly get you a tenant, collect the fees and then hightail it and when the tenant stops paying rent, they then pretend they never even heard of you. I am glad things did not materialize with them. If you are a landlord, run as fast as you can.
22nd Aug 2025 (6 mo. ago)Poor surveying of completely straight boundaries by Guy Imray, no understanding of Land Registry plans due to no knowledge of encroachments. Viewed property then cuts off boundary wall completely (neighbours wall encroaches at front only)!

Their WhatsApp communication made everything quick and easy, and when the sale hit problems, they worked tirelessly to get it back on track. After buying our new home through another agent in Hockley, Amos’s integrity stood out even more. Thanks to Colin and Jo - highly recommend.

30th May 2025 (9 mo. ago)They do not have the knowledge of handling flats. I was with them for 2 months and not one single viewing. They were full of excuses.

We have just handed our flat back after 4 years and from the first to the last interaction Vicky made things straightforward. The contractual process was easy and fair and any repair issues were always dealt with promptly. An easy recommendation.
