25th Feb 2023 (3 years ago)Have used Ascend for 4 years to manage my flat in Liverpool. During the pandemic they found poor tenants with minimal vetting, carried out no inspections (even after restrictions were lifted). After I made my own inspection I had to alert them to the problems they were missing. When the tenant left my place in an aweful state, their own agent admitted this was terrible. Finally, I received demands from debt collectors for unpaid council tax bills from a void period that the agent never passedon to me. Ascend claim they never received the 3 reminders from the council and refused to take any liability for their mismanagement. I lost £600 in fees and a significant knock to my own credit rating. A large agency that likes to charge management fees but doesn't actually manage. Stay clear - I'm sure there are better options out there!

22nd Sep 2025 (9 mo. ago)I once excellent company completely wrecked by its new owners. The company used to be very easy to communicate with, now its easier to communicate with the dead. They use to be polite, but Northwood regard tenants as an inconvenience. I had eight years of good experiences but the ninth is a mess, and its all because Northwood, the new owners, are terrible. It must have taken a lot of effort to transform a great company into one I am now writing a one-star review for on every platform I can find, but they managed it.
1st Jul 2026 (4 days ago)Ok, so this is going to be a tricky review to be positive about. I want to be as honest and helpful to people reading this review, rather than just say I am annoyed at something and give it a one star. If you don’t have much time to read through this, then please read this headline: I massively regret using Thornley groves. They were genuinely awful, barely reached any level of competence, I ended up LOSING money, and it was hugely stressful. I only rented a place. I cannot imagine ever buying or selling with them. Please read the other reviews carefully and don’t dismiss them as I did. I wish you the best in whatever estate agents you choose. This review is my opinion and not meant to affect business with Thornley Groves in any way. OK, on with the detail. First, the good parts. They had a lot of choice and were quick to get me viewings (I did them through video or pictures) and were happy as campers to ‘get me in’ and on their books. Yep, that’s it. That’s all I have. The not so good (not even the worst parts yet). I dealt with the Deansgate (Whitworth street) branch and with an absolutely abysmal person, Peter. If you do choose Thornley Groves and get assigned Peter, do or say whatever you can to work with someone else. I am not sure how to put this without being cruel, but I also owe it to my (soon to be) Manchester neighbours to be honest. This is my honest opinion. Peter is, without a doubt, the worst person I have ever dealt with professionally. Genuinely. That is not even hyperbole. He is inadequate, lazy, afraid of basic tasks, unable or unwilling to do anything even at the bare minimum level, and honestly just embarrassing as a fellow human. He wouldn’t return emails. Ever. In fact, he did but only when it came to sending them money or signing a document. Anything that needed any effort or work, he literally ignored. He is like a toddler but in an adult body. Simply unable to operate at any sort of adult level. I had to call and call and call. I even got the train from London to the office so I could literally use my own mobile phone and dial numbers to connect with others, so he could talk to them. He used my phone because he couldn’t make a phone call for himself. (He also claimed he tried but could never get it to work, but it took me literally three minutes. Genuinely, I have the call log!). He didn’t give me the correct keys to move in. Once we got through it, Peter gave me the front door key and I asked if there were any others. Mail keys, apartment building keys, etc. He assured me no. Literally all keys were needed. It took me 3 weeks and speaking with other people at Thornle Groves to get the window key (still waiting on), apartment building/trash room key, and mailbox key. Even when I collected the keys, I overheard him talking to another person that very day, just before me, saying he gave the wrong keys to him. Also, they don’t tell you who your service providers are. I spent a few weeks tracking down who I need to pay bills to. You are given a list of UK service providers and that’s it, just figure it out for yourself. Lastly, the goodlord referencing company were just as bad as Thornley groves. They sent so many referring emails to my employer (they only need one but sent around 6 over the course of weeks) I had the owner of the company asking me what was going on. They took weeks longer than needed. It cost me around 500GBP in hotels for the delay, and they lied, multiple times about things they were doing. One lie was to say that my company had never replied (even though the owner and head of HR showed me the replies themselves). Thornley Groves chose to use that specific referencing company. Their behaviour also reflects on them. If you have read this far, then fair play, this one was a long review. The thing is, I don’t believe this is a one off. I am not just some random person with a grudge, I am like you. Looking for a new place, wanting it to go as smoothly as possible. I have all my ducks in a row, great credit, good job, charm and charisma (well, maybe not), and it was still a nightmare choosing Thornley Groves and, ergh, dare I say his name, Peter. The abomination they call Peter! I wish I had took the other 1-star reviews more seriously. I thought they were just some disgruntled people and it would be fine. It wasn’t. I deeply deeply regret ever speaking to Thornely Groves.

22nd Aug 2019 (6 years ago)The guy called Matt did not show in the viewing and asked for second one to be delayed for a week. When I checked rightmove I found out they raised the prices after I asked to see the property. Just run away from them.

From the outset, the team were knowledgeable, communicative, and realistic in their guidance.<br><br>A particular mention must go to Andrew Cuckill, who was genuinely outstanding throughout. Andrew handled every stage with complete professionalism keeping me informed, managing expectations, and ensuring I felt confident at every step of what can be a daunting process. His expertise in the auction process was evident and his personal approach made a real difference.<br><br>I would not hesitate to recommend Aubrey Lee to anyone considering selling at auction. First-class service from start to finish.
5th Jul 2026 (0 days ago)First photo's wasnt taken properly had to do make them retake pictures, but still was'nt good enough. Did'nt Advertertising every where only in few websites. I was with them for 9 months but they could'nt sell my property. And took my property off market without my written statement. I would not recomend them at all. They are a waste of time.

3rd Oct 2024 (1 year ago)If there was an option to give 0 stars i would, housing union needs to step in. £120 cleaning charge for blue tack that was already there. Fined £200 in council tax as they failed to inform and submit student exemption, made me homeless twice, £60 fee each time to get back in. Their emergency line failed to work and blamed it on the network. failed miserably at looking after their tenants and all the young women in my flat were subjected to a creepy uncle. Unsure how any of them sleep soundly. The state of the flat was gross while promoting a weekly cleaner. do better

6th May 2026 (9 weeks ago)Following the successful completion of a particularly difficult sale of an industrial unit we would like to say WT Gunson provided an excellent service, their agent, Josh kept all parties informed and was tenacious when things began to derail. He managed to keep in touch with the buyer and ourselves to bring things to a successful conclusion. Thanks very much to Josh and the team. His recommendation of a solicitor was also appreciated.
17th Jul 2021 (4 years ago)Dreadful agent (Andy Backhouse) that seems to struggle to sell properties even in the middle of a boom. Lacks professionalism and / or the basic ability to return calls or emails in less than a week. If you're thinking of selling your property, avoid these or at least this agent. There are plenty more competent, and proactive agents out there.
26th Aug 2021 (4 years ago)As a landlord I would say you should avoid dealing with Taylor Jackson. They were dire at best. Totally incompetent as letting agents. Problems we had: The tenants rent was agreed but he never paid the full amount. They falsified a Tenancy agreement, we only found this out when we sold the property. They did not inspect the property. They held onto money the tenant did pay, we only found out by accident that the Tenant had paid, I am fairly sure had we not found out they would never have paid and their accounting system is dreadful. They had work carried out for us and we did not get any invoices just a charge. The tenant owed 18 months rent in the end so we sold the property. Good riddance Taylor Jackson!

8th Feb 2026 (21 weeks ago)Marc Cox was a great choice of estate agent. Competitively priced. He told us exactly what we needed to do. Communication was fast and clear. House went under offer quickly. Would definitely recommend and if we were staying local we would use again.
