We were impressed with Connells Southampton from the moment we called them about selling our house. They asked sensible questions, provided good literature and were courteous and followed up promptly. We wanted to sell quickly but were not sure if they would be able to get us enough viewings in time, but they did not disappoint.
Our house was on the market within days and despite one or two viewing cancellations, Finlay and Katie were here almost everyday it seemed, keeping us informed along the way and between them managed to find us a buyer who made an acceptable offer within the week! Working with Connells has made the process of buying a first time flat feel less daunting. All the staff are very friendly and happy to help.

*Edit* Lucy, we have reached out to your compliance team and have done so twice since February 2024. We have your compliance team's final response to our complaint and we are not satisfied, hence now asking the TPO to review. So no, we cannot reach out to your compliance team to discuss further as we already have done so and their decision is final that they believe nothing has been breached and really don't care.
Sold our property though them and it was one of the worse experiences of our lives. Verbal agreements and prior discussions to signing with them were not honoured in the contract. After going through their compliance team and met with no resolution, our complaint is currently being reviewed by the property ombudsman. There is zero customer service or apologies for things that go wrong and if there are any delays or issues you will be met with the fact that when you sign a contact with them you are agreeing to pay their fee for completion of a sale only as it's not an SLA. Therefore you are not signing for an agreed level of service which basically means they can do whatever they want. Even management and Area Director's don't give a toss and was even told by one that we were making a mockery of their contracts. Connells are hard nosed and don't look at vendors as humans, but simply as a financial transaction, despite house moves being one of the most stressful experiences in peoples lives. We had to chase for feedback of which was always pretty vague, their vendor app never worked depsite asking numerous times for it to be resolved, we had to rewrite the description of our property, changed the photos on the advert and took better ones with a Samsung phone. Oh and be aware of their photographers who when you suggest photos for your property, you will likely be met with 'no that won't work' or when you make suggestions on a USP for your property for it to be ignored as what do you know? (You have only lived in the property for X number of years) As it turned out s requesting for a change in photos and layout ended up with the sale we needed. After being stuck in this contract with them and no way out to sell our property quickly (we had bought a I am Sold Auction property) we took matters in to our own hands and did the viewings ourselves. After Connells marketing the property for 6 weeks with 10 viewings and no offers, the 4 viewings we did ourselves resulted in 2 offers of which one we accepted. After questioning all of this with Connells their response is sorry you are unhappy but we did get you to completion....well after paying £2.5k they didn't really get to us completion on their own. They registered an applicant and we basically secured the buyer ourselves.
Please be warned about their tactics and their lack of transparency. The one saving grace was Adam who once we had an agreed sale was always amiable and friendly chasing up legal aspects. He is completely wasted in this toxic environment when it seems that the negotiators 'own' applicants, so don't be surprised when you call and want feedback, if you aren't talking to the negotiator who signed up the applicant you are unlikely to get any useful feedback.
We now have another property for sale and wouldn't touch a traditional agent with a bargepole and have signed up with purple bricks for £399. After learning that anyone can take photos, and do a floorplan plus your own viewings this is a considerable saving. We have been really impressed with the ease, speed and follow ups we have already recieved with an online agent compared to a traditional one. At he end of the day remember with Connells you are not signing a SLA, you are only signing to commit to paying their fees when you complete - regardless of how they perform until you get to that point. When you run into issues with them don't expect any apologies, or compensation with them, expect to be gas lit and blamed for not reading a contract properly.
We note that most of the recent reviews are from happy applicants who purchased through them - not the vendors themselves....we wonder why?

I am currently searching for a property with this company and received very good advice from an agent there called Emma Pithie. She gave me a 30 minute free appointment to discuss my AiP and finances and house preferences. Likewise after my visit I went to two different properties and was shown round by a young lad who really investigated and had in depth knowledge about the properties without having to be prompted to give it. Would highly recommend this company to a first time buyer to anyone who is looking to purchase another property.

I did not feel Connells were engaged with the whole process. It felt like they were only interested in having the property price greatly reduced to enable a quick sale, and they would not have to put in any extra work. I was not sure what other work/plans were going on behind the scenes as there was very little communication regarding this. Really disappointed with the service from these agents. Never come back to you on the phone with updates on the offer I made, rude on the phone and shouting. I've been trying to arrange a viewing for 4 days which never happened and in the end hanged up the phone on me. Waste of time 100%

Terrible. Stay far away, you've been warned.
We reached out to a dozen agents in our search for one to sell our property. Connells Bitterne stood out. Ian Dowrick sells himself and the company well, promises everything under the sun and the rates were cheaper / on par with everyone else. Win win.
Almost instantly after signing the contract did things start to go in a different direction. The 'team' who Ian said would come out to us to meet us and see the property never happened, and after this initial engagement, you won't hear from Ian again. Instead passed to someone in the branch to look after you.
Shawn, the Branch Manager took our property. The first Tuesday he called to say it's his weekly ring round day and to expect to hear from him every week without fail for updates, stats, you name it, he'll have it. Good first impression.
A week goes by, no viewers or contact from anyone at the branch, no problem I thought, I'll wait till Tuesday and Shawn will call. Waiting, waiting.. no call. And so begins what is the story here, complete lack of communication. Weeks turn into months very quickly, being drip fed a single viewing every 3-4weeks. I was constantly trying to get updates from them, to which on the phone (when you phone them) they will promise everything, and deliver nothing. They say they will phone you, they wont, time and time again.
TERRIBLE COMMUNICATION.
Equally, it's the little things.. on our first viewing, Shawn was late and hadn't pre-planned so he walked up to the door with the clients whilst we were walking out, dog in hand which led to a very awkward hello to potential buyers. At the same time, that was the first time Shawn had even seen the property, so was just making up the tour as he went along.. very clearly being confused when asked where the boiler was etc (CCTV should you be interested how i'd know that). Also, they constantly pointed buyers to the wrong garage in our block, so trying to sell one that isnt even ours (thanks again CCTV).
We cancelled the contract with them after 3-4 months and 4 viewings. Since then, we went with Enfield's Bitterne, have had more viewings then I can count and subsequently sold whilst having great communication.
Avoid Connells like Covid.

At Connells, my experience was with Suman. Suman was the best polite, assertive, good listener, estate agent that I have got the privilege to see working on the field. I will, for sure, recommend his service to my family and friends. My wife and I share the same opinion about all the services we received, very satisfied and impressed. So it's a 10 out of 10 points

We viewed a local new build property with Branch Manager Shawn on three separate occasions.
He was punctual, courteous and really helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for him to find out information we required about the property and his experience of the property market was both informative and very useful.
He was not in the slightest pushy and was only interested in making sure that the house was completely on all levels the right one for us.
Sadly due to local planning restrictions we did not buy the property, however, that aside I would certainly have NO HESITATION whatsoever in recommending Shawn and his team.

We have been looking at moving for several years due to illness. We asked Connells out to value our property as we had seen there signs about. A gentleman called Shawn came to the property and from the very start he was extremely pleasant and formative. He seemed genuinely interested to help us and listened. We had regular contact with Shawn and even though we have decided now is not the right time to move he was understanding and we would highly recommended Connells and in particular Shawn to anyone.

Terrible. Just bought a house which was on the market through this branch. 1 star is too many here. Never got calls returned & then when Lucy eventually did return a call she was rude! Luckily we were in contact with the sellers ourselves & we communicated to establish what was going on. Never got a call about exchange or completion. Then today we receive a letter in the post asking if we want the property valued. No thank you!! Instead of sending out marketing material I would suggest sending Lucy on a customer service course!

Absolutely terrible. I’m still in the process a MONTH after contracted has been renewed with a new letting agent via my landlord and Connells will not release the deposit back to hand over to landlord or my old housemate due to being ‘understaffed’.
Absolutely disgusting illegal actions. The deposits should’ve been released ages ago. This will be taken further.

Illegal practices - don't go anywhere near them! We put in an offer for a house and we were told by Connells that our offer had been accepted on the condition that we would sell our house through them (which we are not silly enough to do.) We later found out that the seller had never even been told about our offer and they were just trying to get us on their books. They wanted double the fees every other estate agent quoted us and upfront fees for photos etc (which you should never pay.) After this we found out that Connells were making fraudulent offers from us that we did not make to the seller in an attempt to try and stop them changing estate agents. Awful, I would not buy or sell through Connells. If you want to buy a house advertised through Connells, I would knock on the sellers door and talk to them directly. You can't believe anything they say.

Left flat immaculate and they wanted to charge me £800 for cleaning also sanding and glossing wooden kitchen tops. Ridicules. then took over 2 weeks to pay back what was left of my deposit. Avoid avoid ive rented from many agency and connels was worse by far
